Every person fleeing persecution should be able to access safe and legal routes to sanctuary but today millions of people fleeing conflict are trapped in harm's way with no safe and legal way out.
Safe Passage International was founded in response to the refugee crisis in Europe. We have grown from a small project of the charity Citizens UK, to a separate international organisation. We now comprise 23 members of staff based in the UK, France, and Greece, supporting refugees to access safe and legal routes to asylum across Europe. To date over 2,000 individuals have travelled to safety through routes we have opened.
At this critical time, Safe Passage is seeking a new Chair of Trustees who is truly committed to our mission; to open up safe and legal routes to protection through advocacy, community organising and legal work. We then support people's first steps to rebuilding their lives in the UK.
The new Chair will bring a strong understanding of the role of Charity Boards as well as good governance experience and significant strategic leadership. You will serve as an effective ambassador working closely with the CEO and motivated board. It would also be advantageous to bring knowledge of the International NGO sector or an international context.
We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with lived experience of seeking asylum. We value the unique insight this experience brings to shaping strategy and mission as well as maintaining a direct connection with communities who are directly affected by the issues we work on. We are also committed to building a board that is gender balanced, diverse and international in its composition.
