Job description

Founded in 1870, St Christopher's vision is for every child and young person to be safe, loved and happy, to achieve their potential and have a bright future.

Its mission is to create brighter futures for children and young people. We do this by providing fostering, residential and support services where children and young people can feel safe and cared for. We support them to make positive relationships which give them the confidence to succeed.

St Christopher's is an experienced provider of children's homes for young people in care, both in England and the Isle of Man. We constantly learn from young people's experiences and expertise to provide the best care - working with almost 2000 in 2019/20 across 36 centres.

St Christopher's specialises in supporting the most vulnerable children and young people and brings a total child centred approach to its work, providing sustained safeguarding, care and support. St Christopher's is proud of its ability to innovate and co-design - with a range of voluntary, public and private sector partners - on collaborative programmes for its children and young people.

As the current Chair, Bert O'Donoghue reaches the end of his term of office, the Nominations Committee are seeing to appoint his successor. The successful candidate should demonstrate: a deep connection to our values, leadership skills gained within large or complex organisations, well developed communication and interpersonal skills and a keen sense of impartiality and fairness.

The Chair should also have a strong understanding of good governance and some knowledge of the type of work undertaken by St Christopher's and a wider involvement with voluntary sector and other networks.

Unremunerated (reasonable travel costs and out of pocket expenses met)
