Job description

The Walcot Foundation is one of London's longest established grant making foundations, with roots going back to 1618. Operating across the borough of Lambeth, we help make change happen for those affected by modern day poverty and disadvantage through breaking the cycles of financial deprivation for people living in the borough.

Over the ten years to March 2021 we made over 3,000 grants within Lambeth, totalling over £19m. The Foundation's assets are currently valued at over £100 million, with the majority in property. Through our grant-making we create opportunities that change lives within our community.


The Walcot Foundation


Circa £85,000 per annum

We are looking for a Director to ensure the Walcot Foundation is here for the community of Lambeth for another 400 years. Working with the Board, the Director will review the current landscape and grow the Foundation to its next level of impact in a post-pandemic world. This will include developing our future focus and strategy, building our profile with stakeholders within the community and ensuring our staff are supported to achieve their maximum potential. The Director will also oversee our grant making and review the opportunities to maximise income from our assets.

In order to continue to develop and provide the best possible impact for the Lambeth community, we seek an individual with sound leadership experience and a track record of developing organisations to be the best they can be. You will be a visionary who is values-based and experienced in working closely with communities to improve people's lives.. You will bring senior level experience of developing and empowering staff teams as well as being an advocate for inclusion in all its forms, both internally and externally. As an agile and inspirational leader, you will be a strong communicator and a supportive leader who is able to juggle multiple priorities, as well as being able to develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Our beneficiaries come from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. 67% are of African and/or Caribbean descent, and the remainder comprise people of South American and European descent, with 72% overall being female. We are committed to inclusion in all aspects of our work and our new Director will have the ability to collaborate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and nurture differing views. They will work sensitively with the changing needs of our community and be comfortable talking about the importance of inclusion to a range of audiences.
