Prospectus is delighted to be supporting a national children’s charity to recruit for an Interim Head of Policy and Public Affairs on a 9-12 month contract. This is a newly created position that could potentially lead to a permanent role. The charity focus is on using the power of play to make the experience of illness and treatment better for children and for their families.
The Interim Head of Policy and Public Affairs will help the charity to understand the context and key trends in policy, current affairs and other sectors and organisations that impact and influence their work. You will identify key stakeholders and partnerships and work with the SMT and Heads of Marketing & Communications and Insight & Impact to develop an engagement strategy across policy, advocacy, campaigns, media, research, and government relations. By the end of the contract the charity will have a policy and public affairs strategy that identifies key policy areas; a stakeholder engagement strategy and an implementation plan that identifies key objectives, milestones and the resource required for a thriving and respected policy function.
The successful candidate will have the experience, expertise, and resilience to shape and establish this new function in a small, highly ambitious and therefore very busy charity. You’ll have the passion and drive to achieve the objectives in a fairly short time frame, with the self-awareness and emotional intelligence to achieve this in consultation and collaboration with other key members of the team. Knowledge of the UK child health sector, NHS and children’s rights would be a benefit.
