Job description

The Global Steering Group for Impact Investment is an entrepreneurial organisation promoting sustainable development and advancing the use of impact approaches in making philanthropic, business and investment decisions to address the fundamental environmental and social challenges around the world. This is ever more urgent given the current covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis it generates.

The organisation, which is headquartered in London, and with staff in Paris, Buenos Aires and Rome, brings together leaders from the worlds of business, finance, philanthropy and NGOs. The GSG is now looking to appoint an outstanding Market Development Manager to work with the GSG's Chief Market Development Officer and their growing global communities.

The number of countries around the world working with GSG to expand their national ecosystem for impact has been growing significantly. The GSG needs to ensure that it is equipped to consistently provide high-quality advisory, expertise, capacity building support and other services to the NABs (National Advisory Boards), to enable the impact movement to deliver on its ambitions, unleashing the multiplier effect of the GSG's global community. In times of crisis, the GSG needs to provide even more support, proactively anticipating needs, unlocking barriers for capital flows, and offering solutions to critical issue areas, especially in emerging markets where safety nets may not exist for the most vulnerable.

The Market Development Manager will work to develop and strengthen the NABs, with strong focus on DFID target countries. They will play a critical role to support NABs to become effective market builders, enabling more capital to flow towards impact, measurably benefiting people and planet. Working in emerging markets, they will build capacity and guide local stakeholders from across national ecosystems to work together to set up successful, influential and sustainable NABs. This may include supporting them to design multi-stakeholder engagement plans, preparing trips and engagement for senior global leaders to provide additional guidance and inspiration from across the world to a given country.; implementing the GSG NAB Toolkit or other hands-on support, guidance and advice on strategy, communications, policy, governance, and fundraising, amongst others. Overseeing the coordination and reporting of a DFID grant alongside capturing learnings towards the development of new knowledge, content and tools relevant for the community of 500+ NAB members in 30+ countries are key parts of the role.

The successful candidate will be impact focused and interested in social enterprise, development finance and/or the impact investment sector. With a track record of international experience, ideally in Consulting, International Development or Impact Investment, they will thrive in building long lasting relationships which lead to action. Furthermore, they will be comfortable designing and managing complex projects with multiple stakeholder groups, and ensuring they are executed smoothly and with the desired outcomes. The Market Development Manager will excel in a non-profit setting with limited resources and be able to demonstrate tenacity in delivering ambitious projects with a great degree of autonomy, and in collaboration with experts and stakeholders from around the world. A willingness to travel internationally is essential.
