After two years of incubation at the RSA, the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission has now become an independent charitable organisation.

The charity is shifting gear from generating ideas and recommendations to supporting practical actions and real change. It is focussing wholeheartedly on its core mission of connecting food, farming, countryside and the public's health for a just transition to a greener, fairer economy in response to climate and nature, public health, and now Covid-19 emergencies. Providing practical, evidence led recommendations, FFCC will be working to help create a more sustainable and fairer economy for everyone. It is now looking for new team members who are also committed to its mission and purpose, with a fierce optimism that what we all do matters and who want to help grow the movement for change. FFCC is a national organisation with a commitment to offering and developing modern and adaptable working practices. We are delighted to be working together with FFCC to recruit a Head of Communications & Advocacy to join its growing team and to contribute to its bold and ambitious new agenda for change.

This essential role will lead on developing a strategy of communications to support the organisation in its transition into an independent charity. This will involve collating extensive knowledge and evidence led research to create and disseminate a compelling and distinct narrative in line with the charity's ambitious aims of shaping a new vision for food, farming and the countryside and a greener, fairer more sustainable economy. Providing clear and concise content on multi-media platforms including podcasts, user generated blogging, webinars, workshops and government campaigns whilst keeping the charity firmly engaged in the national conversation through effective press and media relationships will be core to this role. The role will also be responsible for making sure the recommendations of the charity land with the public, stakeholders and local and central government.

The successful candidate will have substantial leadership experience in a similar Communications function within the charity, central/local government, food/farming/countryside or higher education sectors. This person will be an accomplished storyteller, completely up to date with all of the very latest digital media platforms and will have an outstanding eye for design and presenting information in a clean, concise and beautiful way. A keen sense of tone will be essential and will showcase the quality and integrity of the charity's œlow and unstuffy but authoritative and well researched, evidence led recommendations. This person will understand the importance of convening leadership and influencing behaviour across sectors and will be able to tailor messaging for diverse audiences on a local and national basis. This is very much a hands on role; FFCC is looking for hands on, mission driven people who can both develop strategy and get on and help deliver it.
