Job description

Join the PSHE Association Board

Become a trustee at a leading education charity and membership association, dedicated to child safety, health, wellbeing and careers.

About PSHE education

Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is a school subject that develops the knowledge, skills and attributes children and young people need to be safe, healthy and prepared for life and work.  The PSHE curriculum covers the most pressing issues facing young people today including relationships and sex, mental health, staying safe from online dangers, digital literacy, challenging extremism and preparing for a volatile jobs market.

About the PSHE Association

The PSHE Association is the national body for PSHE education, an independent charity and membership association supporting a thriving community of over 50,000 PSHE professionals and schools. Our mission is to raise the status, quality and impact of PSHE education and enable high quality PSHE education teaching and learning for all children and young people.

The organisation’s membership, reach and influence have grown significantly in recent years. We have enjoyed significant success in our efforts to improve the status and quality of the subject. Most of PSHE education is now compulsory in schools, and the organisation is embarking on an exciting period of strategic and digital development. It is therefore an ideal time to join our Board.

What are we looking for from new Trustees?

We are looking for individuals:

  • driven by a desire to support an organisation at the forefront of promoting excellence in PSHE education
  • passionate about the importance of education to the lives and life chances of children and young people.
  • with Senior Management or Board-level experience and ideally some understanding of the education landscape in England.

We are hoping to recruit Trustees with a range of skills but are particularly interested in:

  • Trustees with some experience of finance and financial management.  We are looking particularly for someone with the experience to sit on the Finance & Audit Committee, in addition to being on the main Board.  The Finance & Audit Committee meets four times per year.
  • We are also looking for applicants with commercial skills who have experience of leading organisations through strategic growth and can provide advice on scaling our offer whilst empathising with the challenges of scaling a small organisation.

We actively encourage applications from people with various backgrounds and skills to join our Board and positively impact our organisation and working practice. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people of colour and disabled people, who are currently under-represented

Please apply by the 29 July 2022 deadline.
