Job Description

Queen’s Park Community Council (in Westminster, W10) seeks a new Chief Officer to lead our vibrant, diverse neighbourhood into the exciting next stage of its development. A trailblazer for ultra-local democracy and governance, Queen’s Park has the only parish council in London.

  • 30 hours per week
  • Salary around £40,000 pro rata depending on qualifications and experience, plus London Weighting.

Our new Chief Officer will have some experience of running an organisation such as a charity (or part of one), and a strong interest in democracy and civil society. The role is a unique and challenging opportunity in a mixed community of 14,000 people including areas of high deprivation.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with emotional intelligence who functions as effectively in formal meetings as in ad hoc encounters with residents. They will manage the Community Development Officer and other part-time support staff; play a key role in supporting the 12 councillors; and develop the council’s networks within and beyond the local area.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, practical and resilient. They will need experience of working in a governance role, with a clear understanding of local government including political, legal and financial aspects, and be capable of setting and monitoring budgets.

Applicants need to hold a minimum of 5 GCSE’s A-C or equivalent and hold or be willing to achieve the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA).

More details and application packs are available at [SSALC website] and should be returned to SSALC by noon on Monday 3rd June 2019. Interviews will be held in Queen’s Park on Wednesday 12th June.
