Job Title: Hospital Liaison Executive

Reporting to:  Hospital Liaison Manager

Responsible for: Hospital Activity Programme in Birmingham and surrounding areas

Location: Based at home, with regular travel

Hours: Part time


The Hospital Liaison Executive is responsible for carrying out our Hospital Activity Programme, which is one of the key services of the charity. As an important member of the wish team, the Hospital Liaison Executive reports directly to our Hospital Liaison Manager.

The Hospital Activity Programme is designed to reduce the feeling of isolation amongst children during their stay in hospital and provide them with access to innovative and fun activities to both stimulate and brighten their day.

The role involves working closely with Hospital Play Specialists and medical staff from hospitals and hospices across the UK. This includes scheduling the events, planning the activities, managing volunteers, evaluating the programme and evolving the resources to ensure the charity continues to offer innovative activities influenced by the children themselves.


- Creating and maintaining strong working relationships with medical contacts at hospitals and hospices
- Arranging Hospital Activity Days in Birmingham and the surrounding areas
- Ordering and maintaining an inventory of Activity Day resources
- Gathering feedback and refining the programme accordingly
- Actively seeking out new resources and entertainers based on feedback and the reaction from patients
- Negotiating the best possible rates for resources and entertainers, securing gifts in kind wherever possible
- Actively promoting the work of Rays of Sunshine to encourage wish referrals and spread awareness of the charity amongst the hospital community
- Identifying the needs of individual hospitals to provide tailored activities for the hospitals and their patients
- Providing support and guidance to volunteers attending Activity Days, in the lead up to and on the day of the event


- Outgoing and highly motivated individual who is able to work on their own initiative as well as within a team environment
- Strong organisational skills and capable of overseeing several projects at any one time
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and troubleshoot any challenges that may arise
- Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels, from medical personnel to children and their parents
- Passionate, caring, empathetic and above all, a good ambassador for the charity
- An understanding of data protection requirements and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Willing to work out of office hours as and when required
- Experience of working with the public and vulnerable people


- Experience of working with volunteers
- Existing links to community groups and individuals
- Experience in event planning
- Medical knowledge and previous experience of working with the NHS


- Clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle
