Reach Volunteering connects people who want to volunteer their expertise with charities and other social purpose organisations. We are proud to say that we are the leading source of trustees and skills-based volunteers in the sector.
This is an exciting time to be joining Reach: the pandemic created a surge in people wanting to volunteer their skills. There has also been huge growth in the number of social purpose organisations looking for volunteers with expertise to help them navigate changes, explore new approaches and make them sustainable. And the push to create stronger and more diverse trustee boards is gaining ground. Reach sits at the heart of these changes, and with our effective digital service, we are in a good position to keep scaling and deepening our impact. We are a friendly, deeply collaborative team of 10 staff, supported by many amazing volunteers and some great freelancers.
About the role
We are looking for a Head of Marketing and Communications who will raise Reach’s profile, strengthen our brand, and promote our service and the value of skills-based volunteering and inclusive governance to our service users, the wider voluntary sector, potential volunteers and other stakeholders.
Working closely with the CEO and other colleagues, you will take the lead in developing our marketing and communications strategy, and creating and implementing the plan.
You will help us to evolve our story telling approach, and develop our key messages and narratives.
Responsible for digital marketing, you will produce, commission, publish and promote compelling content such as case studies, guidance, blogs and video.
It’s a varied, flexible role. Of course, one person can’t do everything, so, depending on your strengths, you will be supported to recruit volunteers with expertise to help you deliver the work and possibly support with strategic development too. Other team members contribute too: for example currently the Service Development Manager provides weekly support with social media.

We are looking for someone who can produce compelling digital content, for a variety of formats and audiences. Great storytelling skills are important as is the ability to write well for the web. You’ll draw on your knowledge of digital marketing, from planning to measuring to ensure that our content reaches our audiences and you’ll need a strong grasp of the basic principles of SEO, analytics, web design and accessibility.
You will understand the value of brand and help us evolve ours, and you'll be fluent in visual design. You should be comfortable learning new software, and experience with Drupal would be an advantage.
You will be adept at jumping from strategy to implementation, and back again - bringing strategic goals to life through targeted content and impactful action plans. You will have the enthusiasm to get stuck in at both strategic and practical implementation levels and be happy juggling tasks and priorities.
If you are naturally collaborative, work to shared goals and enjoy supporting and challenging colleagues so as to create your best possible work, you’ll fit right in. Flexible, able to pivot as projects evolve, open minded and with a strong appetite for learning, you’ll be comfortable with ambiguity, but focused on the end goal.
