Head of Fundraising

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser who is interested in taking an existing fundraising function and significantly developing it to enable Read Easy to extend its reach into all parts of the UK over the years ahead.

The role can be partly home-based, but (under normal circumstances) will require at least one day per week to be worked in our office in north Gloucestershire, as well as availability to travel as necessary for donor meetings.

Our work is currently receiving a lot of national and local TV and media coverage, and our fundraising to date has demonstrated that there is significant interest amongst funders to support what we do.

Head of Fundraising Responsibilities:

As Head of Fundraising, you will report to the Chief Executive, and as a member of our Management Team will have the opportunity to influence the overall development of the charity, as well as this role and potentially the fundraising team, over time

You will need to be confident and ambitious in your approach, as you will be responsible for delivering a steady increase in budget year on year, in line with our strategic plan. Good foundations are already in place with a range of Trusts and Foundations that have provided repeated funding over the years. Our aim now is to continue stewarding and applying to both new and existing trusts and foundations while diversifying our income portfolio by beginning to develop corporate partnerships and increase individual giving.

In addition, the role will involve responsibility for communications and raising public awareness of Read Easy’s work to support fundraising, including line management of our Website and Social Media Manager.

Head of Fundraising Requirements:

An excellent history in fundraising, including creating and delivering an effective fundraising strategy and raising significant 5 figure grants and donations, ideally with experience of developing corporate partnerships.

You will have the ability to make face-to-face approaches to major donors, with outstanding influencing skills to negotiate successfully and confidently the ask. You will also have strong presentation skills, including tailoring messages and building strong and meaningful one-to-one relationships.

Excellent written English and verbal communications skills, with demonstrable ability to communicate complex and nuanced issues and excellent attention to detail, and ideally, a good understanding of the adult literacy sector and its issues.

We are, in fact, the only national organisation attempting to offer a proven, confidential, free, one-to-one reading coaching programme for the thousands of adults in our communities who can’t read at all, or who struggle to read.

Our evaluation data shows that, following support from Read Easy:

• 90% of adults reported an improvement or significant improvement in their reading, and
• 83% reported an improvement or significant improvement in their confidence, self-esteem and ability to cope with everyday life.

Location: North Gloucestershire or Remote
Contract: Permanent, Part Time. This role is initially for 4 days per week, with the expectation of increasing to full time hours as the charity grows.
Salary: £33,000 - £35,000 per annum, pro rata. (This is the full-time equivalent salary, and the part-time salary is calculated on the number of hours worked.)
Benefits: 33 days holiday, pro rata, including bank holidays. Pension scheme available.
