For more than 50 years, the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) has been the voice of people living with dyslexia. We aim to influence government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia friendly society that enables dyslexic people of all ages to reach their full potential. The BDA is established as the leading dyslexia charity in the UK.

Unfortunately, the need for our support and services is high. Although awareness of dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties has grown, there are ongoing and widening gaps in access to the identification of dyslexia and the provision of expert learning support. Our national Helpline is busier than ever, supporting almost 5,500 people each year, reminding us on a daily basis why we must keep fighting for the rights of our beneficiaries.

Against a challenging backdrop for so many organisations, last financial year we saw continued growth in income from fundraising and training. We invested in growing our team and identified five strategic objectives for the period 2023-2026, and activities are currently underway to deliver these priorities. Our next CEO will continue to oversee these whilst laying the foundations for our next strategy cycle which we intend to publish in 2026. As such, the timing of this appointment allows the successful candidate the opportunity to work with the Board and other key stakeholders to articulate the long-term vision for our charity, establishing a plan that enables us to expand our reach and deepen our programmes.

The role of CEO at the BDA is one of both challenge and immense reward, offering the chance to lead a passionate and skilled team dedicated to making a tangible difference in society. Join us as our Director of Finance and IT at War Child UK, a pivotal role within our Leadership Group reporting directly to Helen Pattinson, CEO. Your role is to lead our finance and IT, but as a member of our leadership group to take joint responsibility with other Directors for leading the organisation.

As Finance and IT Director, you'll lead the optimisation of our finance and IT systems to streamline recording and reporting of financial transactions. Your analytical skills will be essential as you explore cost and income centres, supplying vital data necessary to significantly enhance our fundraising efforts.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll play a strategic role in long-term financial planning, fostering collaboration across the War Child Alliance. Together with fellow leaders, you'll steward the wider organisation, ensuring War Child UK is ready for success and equipped with ambitious financial investment frameworks.

Success in this role also entails ensuring our IT systems maintain the highest standards of excellence, delivering accurate and timely financial performance insights. You'll contribute to a vision where War Child UK achieves extraordinary results within a financially sound Alliance, empowering members to maximise their impact while being accountable for every penny raised.

You will be a qualified accountant with exceptional strategic and operational experience. You do not necessarily need to have prior international development experience, although you will need to demonstrate that you can build effective working relationships with overseas counterparts. Experience of working within a complex fundraising environment would be highly advantageous though.  For this role, we are also as keen to hear from experienced directors who are excited by what we do as we are from those for whom this would be their first senior leadership role.

The Black Country Living Museum is an award-winning open-air museum.

Throughout its 46-year history, its aim has always been clear: Inspiring your discovery of the Black Country. The Director of Development and External Affairs will lead the fundraising, audiences, and communications teams and support the direction of strategic plans for the Museum. The Director will determine a strategic plan for commercial opportunities within the remit of the role including corporate sponsorship, hire and hospitality, filming and photography location shooting, as well as fundraising revenue streams. You will manage both capital and revenue income targets and support an experienced team to increase visitor attendance to achieve c. 400,000 visitors per year. Crucially you will deputise for the Chief Executive where appropriate.

The selected candidate will have leadership experience in an organisation of at least comparable scale and complexity and will have a track record of developing and delivering successful strategies across external affairs, fundraising and audiences. We are working in partnership with Hampshire Cultural Trust (HCT), who were established as an independent charity in 2014. HCT operate visitor attractions, galleries, museums, and arts centres across Hampshire, and are responsible for conserving and maintaining one of the largest and most significant regional collections of historical artefacts in the country. Their charitable purpose is to change lives through culture, both for Hampshire’s residents and for visitors to the county, placing particular emphasis on reaching individuals, groups and communities who are vulnerable or disadvantaged, breaking down barriers of access to arts and culture.

HCT are now seeking to appoint a Director of Development to lead and deliver a trust-wide strategic approach to fundraising, in alignment with organisational needs and priorities. The director will develop and lead a high performing team and will be responsible for growing income from a range of sources, including trusts and grants, individual giving and developing a philanthropy programme based on a portfolio of designated funds to support strategic projects and ongoing revenue funding. This role sits on the SLT, with shared responsibility for setting and realising the organisation’s goals, strategic priorities, and business plan.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Significant experience in fundraising, including developing and implementing successful development strategies and securing income from a wide range of sources.
• Significant experience in securing philanthropic gifts at the five and six figure level.
• Strong track record in developing successful proposals and securing grants from trusts and statutory funders, with an ability to convey information in a concise, relevant, and compelling way.
• Experience of managing and developing high-performing teams, and senior stakeholder relationships, including donors and funders.
• Good working knowledge of charity finance, budgeting, and reporting.

Women in Prison is the main national charity focused on women in the criminal justice sector. We exist to support women facing multiple marginalisation and exclusion, who have been let down, and their rights denied.  We believe that prison doesn’t work and we want to see an end to the harmful imprisonment of women in England and Wales.

Our staff team are passionate, ambitious and grounded in the reality of women’s lives.  We are proud of our roots as a feminist grassroots organisation, and we have grown from strength to strength since the 1980s, delivering services to women and campaigning for change. We are in our 40th year of supporting women impacted by the criminal justice system. We work with women who are at risk of, or being harmed by, the systems that are meant to protect us.

The successful candidate will lead on a wide range of responsibilities for the charity including managing our resources and systems, organisational development and, critically for an organisation of our size, the financial management of the charity.  The role will also lead our internal approaches to embedding equity, diversity and inclusivity into our everyday work and culture.

Leadership and People Management

The Successful Applicant

• Experienced Financial Director
• Significant experience at senior management level, with substantial budgetary responsibility and a proven track record of achievement in at least two relevant service areas

The role

This crucial role will help to strategically grow and develop our income and awareness. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will report directly to the charity’s CEO, have key Trustee relationships with the Chair and Fundraising lead Trustee, and build collaborative relationships with the senior staff and clinicians across St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

You will build and lead the fundraising and communications team, both strategically and operationally, whilst managing them through a period of change. You will drive and deliver fundraising and marketing strategies, identify key areas to accelerate growth across a diversified range of income streams, and drive greater brand awareness.

This role will be required in the office a minimum of two days a week, with flexibility to engage with key stakeholders in the hospital according to their availability.

The person

We are seeking an experienced senior fundraiser to develop and grow sustainable, long-term support across all income streams, but with particular attention to the high-value portfolio.  

With proven experience of successfully developing and implementing ambitious fundraising and communications strategies, you will be an exceptional relationship builder, capable of building and nurturing strong and productive relationships, both internally and externally. We are also looking for an inspiring leader who will empower and support their team through a period of change, as well as the wider organisation to deliver our ambitious growth targets.

Blatchington Court Trust, based in Hove, is looking for a strategic, inspirational and experienced leader to join as our new Chief Executive Officer. As our new CEO, you will lead this well-regarded, financially secure local charity to further develop our work for children and young people with sight loss across Sussex.

With a highly committed team, Blatchington Court Trust (BCT) stands as a beacon of support and empowerment for young people under 30 with sight loss and their families across Sussex. We are a vital resource for our community, offering a diverse range of services aimed at informing, empowering, and enriching the lives of those we serve. These include educational advocacy, benefits advice, technology grants, wellbeing support, and running a wide range of events and activities.

Under the leadership of our new CEO, we are looking to develop our strategy, policies and processes, better measure our impact, and explore fundraising opportunities beyond our investment income so we can expand and develop our services.

Salary: circa £65,000

• Proven experience in senior leadership roles within the charitable sector, demonstrating the ability to lead change, inspire, motivate, and lead teams.
• Track record of developing and implementing organisational strategy.
• Business development acumen, with a track record of growing income and identifying and bringing in new funding.
• Experience in recruiting, developing, and managing high-performing teams, with a commitment to staff development and empowerment.
• Sound understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and negotiating skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including beneficiaries, donors, funders, and partner organisations.
• Strong understanding of impact assessment, with the ability to develop and implement effective impact assessment processes.
• Proven ability to create a positive and inclusive work environment where all staff feel valued, supported, and motivated.
• Lived experience of sight loss or a strong understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with sight loss would be advantageous but not essential.

As the CEO of AFD, you will play a pivotal role in steering this well-regarded charity to further enhance services for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals across the region.

With a dedicated team of professionals, AFD is committed to serving the needs of the Deaf and hard of hearing community in Sussex. The charity serves as a cornerstone of support and advocacy, offering essential services tailored to meet the diverse needs of its clients. These services encompass audiology provision (provided via delivery of NHS contacts, which represents the majority of funding), as well as community support, advocacy and engagement initiatives.

As the next CEO, you would be responsible for shaping the future of this organisation, further strengthening relationships with commissioners, growing and diversifying services and income streams, and ensuring the charity meets the diverse needs of the community.

Role: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Action for Deafness

Salary: £50,000 to £60,000

Location: Haywards Heath, with significant time to also be spent in Worthing, Sussex

Contract: permanent, full time

• Significant proven record of achievement in a senior position within a charity/not for profit organisation.
• Experience of effective partnership working and development and external relationship management.
• Experience of managing, motivating and developing staff.
• Experience of business planning, business development and fundraising.

• Financial management skills including budgeting and delivery of cost and income targets.
• Robust approach to governance, controls and definition/implementation of new processes
• Experience of financial and risk management.

As AFD is a user-led organisation, an understanding of the issues affecting Deaf and hard of hearing people, or ideally, lived experience, is highly desirable.

You will be a strong generalist and an advocate for workforce training and development, building capability and promoting collaboration across the organisation. You will be confident in leading a high performing People team with responsibility for Culture, EDI, Internal Comms & Engagement, L&D, People Operations & Experience, Employee relations, Industrial relations, Policy and Governance.
