The Role
Plan and manage campaigns end to end,to supporters and shoppers through channels including direct mail, email, telephone, SMS, social media and supporter stewardship events.

Work with the Senior Product Managers to produce annual and campaign budgets.

Coach and mentor members of the team in communications expertise and management skills.

Significant evidence of effective income and expenditure budget management and of producing scenario models and

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Volunteer Manager to join the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew).  Volunteers contribute significantly to the delivery of Kew’s mission, supporting all aspects of Kew’s work notably in Horticulture, Science, visitor engagement, schools, community and access programmes and Galleries.  We currently count on over 800 volunteers across our two sites - Kew Gardens in west London and Wakehurst, our wild botanic garden in Sussex. 

The volunteering function sits within the Gardens directorate in the Learning and Participation department but has an organisational-wide remit, working closely with business areas such as Horticulture, Science, HR and H&S. There is a devolved structure for the management of volunteers with a full time Volunteer Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at the centre with responsibility for delivering the Volunteer Strategy and associated KPIs, policy and procedures. This central resource support is vital for the continued expansion and development of the volunteering programmes in a coherent and equitable way and to a uniformly high level.

The Volunteer Manager will engage with all volunteers, including those under 18 years of age and vulnerable adults. An Enhanced DBS check is required.

About You

We are seeking an experienced volunteer manager who will ensure our volunteers, and staff who coordinate them, have the skills and support they need to confidently and consistently perform their roles to support the implementation of Kew’s Manifesto for Change.

You will manage the central function for volunteers across Kew Gardens and Wakehurst, supporting processes linked to recruitment, selection, induction, training, pastoral care and leavers.  You will have excellent knowledge of the UK volunteer sector and understand the legal context of engaging volunteering and how it differs from employment. With excellent IT and administrative skills, you will be experienced in collecting, maintaining, analysing and reporting on volunteer data. 

You will be an ambassador for Kew’s volunteers and a visible presence for all volunteers, advocating for them internally and externally. HCT are now seeking to appoint a Director of Development to lead and deliver a trust-wide strategic approach to fundraising, in alignment with organisational needs and priorities. The director will develop and lead a high performing team and will be responsible for growing income from a range of sources, including trusts and grants, individual giving and developing a philanthropy programme based on a portfolio of designated funds to support strategic projects and ongoing revenue funding. This role sits on the SLT, with shared responsibility for setting and realising the organisation’s goals, strategic priorities, and business plan.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Significant experience in fundraising, including developing and implementing successful development strategies and securing income from a wide range of sources.
• Significant experience in securing philanthropic gifts at the five and six figure level.
• Strong track record in developing successful proposals and securing grants from trusts and statutory funders, with an ability to convey information in a concise, relevant, and compelling way.
• Experience of managing and developing high-performing teams, and senior stakeholder relationships, including donors and funders.
• Good working knowledge of charity finance, budgeting, and reporting.

We are seeking a brilliant major donor fundraiser to play a crucial role in generating funds from HNWIs through major gifts and legacies. As Senior Philanthropy Manager you will step into a newly created position in the team that will focus on creating and implementing a compelling major donor programme.

Your focus will be to inspire giving for investment in the Hall, including initiatives to improve accessibility and sustainability, as well as the Hall’s pioneering community engagement programme. You will be a creative, driven and strategic individual who has a track record of developing engaging supporter journeys and soliciting transformational gifts.

As Senior Philanthropy Manager you will:

• create and deliver the major donor strategy focused on driving growth and income from HNWIs;
• personally manage a portfolio of philanthropists giving 5, 6 and 7-figure gifts;
• oversee and develop the prospect pipeline, proactively researching potential supporters and utilising networks from senior stakeholders involved in the Hall;
• consistently deliver exceptional stewardship journeys, knowing how to capitalise on the incredible array of events at the Hall as powerful engagement tools;
• produce and present compelling cases for support to secure transformational restricted and unrestricted donations;
• provide leadership and support to the Philanthropy Coordinator;
• work closely with the rest of the Philanthropy team to identify and maximise the lifetime support of donors.

Ideal skills and experience: 

• Demonstrable experience of managing and securing 5- and 6-figure+ gifts from HNWIs
• Proven track record of delivering a strong major donor strategy/programme
• Experience identifying major giving opportunities, building a pipeline and being proactive with prospect research
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders of all levels
• Line management experience, and keen interest in motivating and developing direct reports
• A creative flare, team player, proactive and ambitious
• Passion for the arts, sciences and the work of the Royal Albert Hall

Hybrid working, 3-4dpw in Royal Albert Hall, Kensington office. This role will require occasional evening and weekend work in line with the Hall’s events programme, in particular those attended by your donors and prospects.
