For a leading global NGO, we're recruiting a Project Financial Controller for a fixed term of 12-months. Reporting to the Senior Financial Controller and working closely with the CEO, this role will lead the financial management and internal controls for the Regional and Country offices and shared service processes and transactions. The Projects Financial Controller will implement robust management reporting, and cash-flow forecasts, and will work with stakeholders to monitor budgets and forecasts. This is a key role within the NGO, and will be instrumental in building Finance knowledge, capacity and delivering training to Regional and country offices.

What you'll be doing:

• Monitoring and improving financial control processes
• Monitoring and analysing Regional, Country, Project and Departmental budgets and reporting including annual accounts of Country offices and reporting to external Donors
• Provide capacity building, training, and Finance support to all stakeholders
• Set up accounting systems for Country Offices and global offices, proposing improvements and robust controls
• Lead monthly and yearly close processes and review and prepare statutory audit deliverables
• Review and validate Country proposals, Donor proposals and reporting
• Review and reconcile Donor and Partner grants and reporting
• Support the migration and consolidation of data for closing processes

St Paul’s Cathedral School are pleased to be exclusively partnering with Robertson Bell in search of a new Financial Controller to join their team on a permanent basis. St Paul’s Cathedral School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 5 to 13 (Reception to Year 8). 

The Financial Controller will report into the Bursar and be responsible for for the whole of the School’s day-to-day accounting function to ensure effective procedures and robust controls are in place for all aspects of the function.

The organisation:

Situated in the heart of the City of London, at the East side of the Cathdral, the School enjoys state-of-the-art facilities for academic work, music, performing arts and sport in a single-site campus. With around 275 pupils (with up to 36 Cathedral Choristers who are boarding pupils), the School is small enough to ensure that each pupil receives individual attention, yet large enough to offer an array of academic and extra-curricular opportunities that a Prep school could deliver. There are 84 members of staff, comprising teachers, teaching assistants, music instructors and a support team. 

The role:

• Assist the Bursar to seek commercial income opportunities and monitor and advise on school investments through liaison with external investment managers.
• Deputise for the Bursar in all finance matters and at governor committees, or at SLT meetings when requested by the Head. 
• Support the Bursar’s financial and audit responsibility.
• Check Income & Expenditure (I&E) variances and explain and compare findings to previous year, to budgets and to forecasts.
• Prepare weekly cashflow forecast and monthly management accounts.
• Compile and analyse the annual school budget, setting and monitoring. 
• Prepare initial input data for new arrivals, departing staff, music teachers and additional overtime payments. 
• Modernise the finance IT package and update the finance manual.
• Oversee and administer school fee collection, process supplier payments and invoices.
• Prepare and present the annual accounts for the annual statutory audit and liaise with the auditors and implement audit findings. 

The successful candidate will be:

• A fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or at Finalist level.
• Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and producing management accounts.
• A fantastic communicator.
• Experienced in developing and implementing financial systems and internal controls.
• Confident assisting with annual audits and in the preparing of annual accounts.

This position will be based officially at the head office in central London next to St Pauls Cathedral and will require the postholder to work from the office with occasional hybrid working. The Senior Accountant (Financial Control) post can be based in either the London or Manchester office. This role is in the central Financial Accounting and Control Team (FACT). In addition to being DCMS’ financial accounting Centre of Excellence, the team leads in the production of the consolidated accounts of the DCMS Group (with 34 of its 42 Arms Length Bodies directly consolidated) and manages the National Lottery Distribution Fund. The team is the hub for all financial operational and control functions including treasury management, VAT, purchase to pay support and manages the relationship with DCMS’ shared services provider. The DCMS Finance team is relatively small and this provides opportunities for development not always found in a bigger department.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Accountant (Financial Control) will include:

• Management and delivery of robust financial policies, controls, processes and systems.
• Management of the core department’s key finance system (Integra) and the relationship with the department’s shared service provider.
• Overseeing the payment process for suppliers via Purchase to Pay (P2P), including prompt payment monitoring and reporting.

The successful Senior Accountant (Financial Control) will have:

• Qualified financial accountant (CCAB, CIMA or equivalent) with demonstrable post qualifying experience in a large finance team
• Experience of preparing (or auditing) accounts in conformity with relevant accounting standards
• Experience of managing or using financial systems and advanced knowledge of Excel
• Be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex ideas both verbally and written

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

Financial Accountant

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world.

We are a very ambitious organisation which has gone through transformational growth over the past five years. Alongside funding an existing programme of world-leading research, treatment and care, the Charity has recently completed its largest capital appeal to date, successfully raising £70 million to build the Oak Cancer Centre at the hospital’s Sutton site.

The role is primarily responsible for ensuring the integrity of the monthly financial reporting to trial balance and producing the statutory accounts for the Charity and Trading Subsidiary. It also includes supporting the management and continuous development of the finance systems and processes.

Key responsibilities:

• Management of year end audit and production of statutory accounts including liaison with auditors, dealing with queries and management of the year end timetable.
• Completion of a timely month end process to trial balance stage, which includes a review of our monthly nominal activity report before month end close
• Ensuring that all balance sheets accounts are reconciled monthly, and any differences are dealt with accordingly, including bank reconciliations, intercompany, fundraising income and restricted fund reports
• Responsible for Quarterly VAT Returns, management accounts for our Trading subsidiary and the reconciliation of the intercompany account with the Charity
• Processing of monthly journals including income and expenditure accruals, prepayments, quarterly depreciation, recharges and grant reporting
• Support the review and development of financial policies and procedures
• Work with the Head of Grants and Financial Controller of the Trust to ensure accurate cashflow forecasting for the Charity

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified or qualified by experience accountant with a desire to drive change in an organisation. Additional skills include highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise and work across different teams.

Finance and Operations Manager - 4 or 5 days a week - Fully remote - one year contract

An exciting opportunity has come up to work for a circa £1million turnover association. This is a newly created role, where you will be working very closely with reporting to the CEO.

This is a fully remote role, offering a salary between £40,000 - £45,000 per annum with 30% non contributory pension. My client is open to candidates looking to work 4 days a week, where the salary will be prorated.

This is a very hands-on Finance role overseeing the HR and the IT infrastructure. The role provides support to the Board ensuring the organisation is charity compliant in all its work. Key duties and responsibilities will include:

The Successful Applicant

• Prepare the annual Statement of Financial Activities and Balance Sheets for the School and its enterprise and international companies
• Assist DFO in preparation of annual Directors' Report
• Prepare monthly cash statements and aged debtor analyses
• Prepare cash flow statements each term
• Ensure the fixed asset register is maintained and depreciation calculated accurately
• Ensure that all intercompany transactions are properly reflected in the accounts of each company and in the consolidated financial statements of the School
• Prepare group VAT returns for the School's and subsidiaries and monitor non-VATable transactions for the Charity in respect of registration requirements
• Reverse VAT charges for overseas agents
• Liaise with VAT consultant where necessary
• Corporation Tax Returns for trading subsidiaries in conjunction with advisor
• Reconcile bank accounts for restricted funds and analysis of fund market values and ensure all other bank accounts are reconciled monthly (fees and operating accounts)
• Reconciliation (and supervision) of all major nominal ledger control accounts
• Liaising with overseas partner schools re income and payments
• Reporting on investment portfolios
• Daily management of cash and optimisation of income from cash deposits
• Managing daily posting of all fees and operating bank accounts by Finance Team
• Managing the purchase ledger operation.
• Accurately managing accruals and prepayments and reporting for audit
• Recognising all non-fee/other income appropriately including donations, restricted and non-restricted

Senior Finance Manager | £55,000 - £64,600 | Permanent | Fully Remote / Home Based

For the UK's largest not-for-profit social enterprise in the employment and social mobility sector, we are recruiting a Senior Finance Manager. This role will provide high quality financial information and analysis to senior managers and external stakeholders supporting decision-making. This is a highly commercial role, which is key in ensuring service quality is maximised, and financial performance targets are achieved. The Senior Finance Manager will lead a team of 4 and will suit someone happy to work fully remotely whilst developing excellent relationships across a large, multi-location organisation.

Main Duties:

• Budgeting and Cost Control - Lead divisional budget setting and forecasting process
• Coordinate monthly key variance summary in financial performance and KPIs for senior management
• Interpret and present complex financial information to non-finance managers, supporting decision-making and improvements to budget and forecast performance
• Financial Reporting - Maintain robust financial controls across the division and coordinate the audit process with the financial reporting team. Preparation of year end accounts, liaising with auditors
• Lead the team to produce external financial returns to funders, dealing with queries
• Financial Analysis - Support business planning process, and short- and medium-term financial targets
• Lead the production of the multi-year financial forecast with the FP&A team
• Lead in planning and managing the year-end accounts closedown process
• Lead and develop workflows to ensure month-end processes are robust
• Work with Project Accounting team to provide finance support in costing, pricing, and tendering of new business opportunities
• Lead and motivate a team of Finance Managers and Management Accountants

Person Specification:

• CCAB Qualified
• Substantial experience of working at senior level in financial management across a complex organisation
• Experience leading and motivating a team
• Experience leading strategic work streams supporting annual accounting cycle and longer-term financial planning requirements

The role:

The purpose of this role is to ensure effective, efficient and accurate day-to-day financial management and financial controls for the Fidelity UK and international Foundations, including leading on management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow planning and delivering the annual reports and accounts for all four Foundations. The post holder will prepare all finance papers for Board and Finance and Investment Subcommittee meetings and will support the oversight of the Foundations’ investment portfolios. This role will also be responsible for managing all payments made by the Foundations, in addition to ensuring risk and compliance guidelines are adhered to at all times.

The person

The successful applicant will have a detailed knowledge of accounting principles, ideally with experience of the charitable sector, and a strong track record of day-to-day financial management in a comparable role. You will have strong analytical skills and be able to demonstrate both operational and strategic thinking. You will have a proficiency in accounting (with a relevant finance qualification) and will be able to evidence the successful production of annual accounts and monthly reporting, ensuring monitoring against budgets. Additionally, you will have strong analytical and reporting skills, exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication and presentation skills, and hands-on experience of explaining complex financial information clearly and concisely. Finally, you will have a high degree of humility and a collaborative style and will be able to pro-actively manage a diverse workload on your own initiative.
