REDRESS is an international human rights organisation based in London and The Hague that represents victims of torture to obtain justice and reparation. We bring legal cases on behalf of individual victims of torture, and advocate for better laws to provide effective reparations. Our cases respond to torture as an individual crime in national and international law, and as a human rights violation with state responsibility. We apply our expertise in torture, reparation, and the rights of victims to national and international courts. Through our victim-centred strategic litigation we are able to have an impact beyond the individual case to address the root causes of torture and to challenge impunity. We conduct research and advocacy to identify the changes in law, policy and practice that are necessary. We work collaboratively with international and national organisations and grassroots victims’ groups.
REDRESS receives funding from a variety of sources, including large foundations, family trusts, and major donors, and project funding from governments and philanthropic organisations. Our fundraising strategy seeks to diversify our sources of core funding, and encourage more multi-year funding, in order to ensure the longer-term stability of the organization. REDRESS is planning for modest growth in the organization over the next three years, and this new position is part of that process.
Based in London the Development Manager will be required to:
· Lead Redress’ small fundraising team.
· Develop and deliver a fundraising strategy for core and project funding, together with annual plans to deliver that strategy.
· Manage our trusts and foundations fundraising.
· Develop a new “major donors” campaign for the 30th Anniversary of Redress.
· Oversee applications for project funding.
The position is expected to contribute to the work of REDRESS as follows:
· Strategy. Support the Director to develop a fundraising strategy for Redress that complements the organizational strategy.
· Planning. Conduct annual planning to identify key targets for the year. Review those targets with staff periodically.
· Management. Manage the fundraising process to ensure we meet all deadlines, and identify key priorities.
· Relationships. Maintain relationships with our key donors, and with relevant staff in our main project partners.
· Core Funding. Together with the Director, deliver a strategy for increasing unrestricted revenue by diversifying our income streams.
· Major Donors. Develop a major donors campaign, through direct approaches and events.
· Funding Proposals. Prepare and draft funding proposals and reports, and co-ordinate with staff for input on substance, strategy, and budget.
· Team Leadership. Lead the small development team and supervise the Development Officer.
· Professional Responsibility. Maintain the highest ethical standards in accordance with the recommendations of the sector regulators.
· Reporting. Provide reports to the Director, and to the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
The Development Manager is also expected to carry out such further duties as may reasonably be requested from time to time by REDRESS.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience.
· At least seven years relevant professional experience, preferably including experience in the human rights sector.
· A degree in a relevant area, such as human rights, social sciences, or international relations, or equivalent relevant experience.
· Significant experience at fundraising, including developing a fundraising strategy.
· Experience managing trusts and foundations fundraising.
· Demonstrated excellence in writing fundraising proposals.
· Knowledge of fundraising regulations and best practice.
· Developing and budgeting NGO projects, and preparing project proposals.
· Managing junior staff and volunteers.
· Monitoring and evaluation as part of project funding.
· Fluency in written and oral English.
The following competencies are desirable:
· Experience working with NGOs and other stakeholders in developing countries, including working overseas.
· Fluency in a language other than English, in particular French or Spanish.

Reporting. The position reports to the Director.
Hours. Full time (35 hours a week). Evening and weekend work may be required from time to time. Redress has a flexible working policy that allows for some working from home.
Location. The Redress office in London. For 2020 staff are mainly working remotely.
Salary. Redress uses salary scales with four levels (Assistant, Officer, Advisor, Head of) and seven steps within each level. There is a cost of living increase annually and an expectation of a step increase for strong performance, where funds permit. This is a C-level ‘advisor’ position, with an initial annual salary range (C1-C3) of between £37,500 and £45,000.
Probation. There is a three-month probationary period, which can be extended to six months.
Holiday. There are 25 days of holiday per year, in addition to UK public holidays. The office is also closed between Christmas and New Year.
Status. The candidate must have the right to live and work in the UK. For EU citizens without settled status, Redress will support any application that might be necessary to remain in the UK after 31 January 2021.
