Job Description

Refuge, an aware-winning charity are looking for an Early Intervention Worker, who will work in the Athena service to reach out to and support 13 – 17 year-old survivors of gender-based violence (including domestic violence, female genital mutilation, sexual, financial and emotional abuse, forced marriage and ‘honour’-based violence) from the point of crisis, informing them of the full range of civil, criminal and practical options, to help ensure their short-term and long-term safety, reduce risk, enable them to access community support services and achieve their life goals.

Early Intervention Workers increase the ability of partner agencies to recognize, react and respond appropriately and safely to all forms of gender-based violence.

You will manage a caseload of around 15 clients, providing one-to-one emotional and practical support. You will work in partnership with other agencies in Lewisham to secure the best outcomes for your clients and for other survivors of domestic or sexual violence. You will work in partnership with other agencies to deliver presentations and informal training to increase local understanding and improve the coordinated response to gender based violence, especially for young people. 

You will have demonstrable experience of providing emotional and practical support within the violence against women and girls sector, preferably working with young people. You will be experienced in advocating in a multi-agency setting to secure positive life outcomes for your clients and to making the service a success.

You will be self-sufficient, assertive and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with empathy and sensitivity to build and develop supportive relationships with young people. You will maintain professional boundaries and adhere fully to Refuge’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
