The Refugee Council works in the UK with asylum seekers and refugees. Our operational teams based in various locations in England provide advice and assistance across a wide range of issues, including helping asylum seekers through the complexities of the asylum system, addressing issues of destitution and assisting refugees and asylum seekers to access key services including housing, welfare benefits, health, education and employment. We operate four main teams: Resettlement, Therapeutic, Integration and Unaccompanied Children’s teams.
Purpose of the Job
As part of our funding from Southwark CCG, we are recruiting a Psychological Therapist to deliver counselling and therapeutic work to clients from Barry House presenting with mental health distress. This post is a temporary cover to the post holder who has taken secondment on another role.
You will provide individual and group therapeutic Trauma Informed counselling to Asylum seekers to help them process their past experiences of trauma as well as identify their strengths and resilience to enhance their integration in local communities.
You will be working autonomously and within the context of a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver the project’s objectives and ensure that targets and outputs are collected for the monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To provide biopsychosocial assessments of refugee people and design appropriate client-centred care plans including therapeutic Trauma Informed counselling and referrals to other specialist services.
- To deliver psycho-educational and psychosocial therapeutic group activities enhancing the wellbeing of service users and promoting their ability to integrate in communities.
2. Project Monitoring
- Project monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outcomes to a high standard.
- To maintain good and accurate recordings of client work on client database (INFORM) and up to date client evaluations forms (CORE 10, client confidentiality mandate and client feedback) at all times.
3. Key Relationships
- To engage with the Advocacy & Influencing team on issues of campaigning, research or media affecting the project, if and as required.
- The Post holder will build, establish and maintain good and professional working relationship with the Head of Therapeutic Services, Project Manager and the wider therapeutic team, staff and volunteers and other staff in the Refugee Council to ensure effective collaboration across the organisation.
- Project partnership stakeholders including Migrant Help, IAPT, Accommodation providers and other specialist agencies and other stakeholders.
Health & Safety
The post holder is responsible for:
Cooperating with the Refugee Council in delivering all legal responsibilities in respect of your own and your colleagues, volunteers, clients and others health and safety whilst at work.
Becoming familiar with the Refugee Council’s Health & Safety Policy and procedures including evacuation procedures at your workplace.
Carrying out risk assessments of your own work and especially of your own workstation to ensure that you do not expose yourself or others to unnecessary risk.
In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post-holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties will, however, fall within the scope of the job, at the appropriate grade. The job description will be subject to periodic review with the post-holder to ensure it accurately reflects the duties of the job.
