Job description

ABOUT US: Refugee Trauma Initiative (RTI) was founded in 2016 to address the psychosocial needs of refugees affected by violence and forced displacement in Northern Greece. Our mission is to support refugee families to heal and rebuild their lives. Our vision is a world where trauma-informed practices sit at the heart of all humanitarian work. 

RTI’s programmes are designed by experts in psychosocial support and education, working alongside people with lived experience of displacement to leverage their skills, resilience, and power. Our programmes include Baytna, our early childhood development programme, and Dinami, our youth development programme. 

ROLE PURPOSE:  We are looking for a self-starter to provide effective support for RTI’s knowledge management, including monitoring, evaluation, research, communications and administrative tasks. 

This is a generalist position to support the functioning of RTI, a Greek-based NGO, with some flexibility required and scope to shape the role according to the post-holders' interests and experience. We are a small, friendly and international team, and look forward to receiving your application!

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Knowledge management 

LOCATION: UK-based remote-working, until London office established (estimated January 2021). 

CONTRACT TYPE: This is a consultancy role for up to 12 months, and the post-holder will be responsible for paying their own taxes. Fees will be 2000 GBP per month. 


Monitoringevaluation, and research 

  • Work closely with Director and Head of Knowledge Management to support and conduct research tasks which inform our programming and advocacy efforts. This may include conducting desk reviews, writing research briefs, and helping to coordinate research collaborations with external consultants.  

  • Provide administrative, logistical and project management support for the monitoring and evaluation of RTI’s programmes (e.g. setting up interviews and focus groups, communicating appropriately with participants) 

  • Support data entry and analysis, while maintaining accurate and effective databases and spreadsheets 

  • Follow and promote our M&E values and strategy among the team, which includes equity-based evaluation  

  • Support initiatives which monitor and improve staff satisfaction and wellbeing, such as staff surveys 

  • Ensure responsible data handling and follow GDPR guidelines 



  • Create and schedule social media posts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram 

  • Help to maintain an up-to-date and engaging website 

  • Assist in the coordination of a rebranding initiative taking place in late 2020 


Administrative and other support  

  • Provide UK-related administrative support to the Director, including organisation and logistic support, diary management, and liaison with external partners  

  • Upholds RTI’s values with staff, partners, donors and official bodies.  

  • Other tasks related to the role, with mutual agreement 




  • Minimum 3-year experience in project management, support functions, research and/or monitoring and evaluation.  

  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational and project management skills  

  • Ability to self-motivate, effectively prioritise, and to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision (this role will be working remotely in the UK).  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. 

  • Computer literate with a high degree of proficiency and productivity, especially in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint 

  • Strong analytical and information-gathering skills.  

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude, and a team player who enjoys working in culturally and linguistically-diverse teams. 

  • Discretion with confidential and sensitive information and data. 

  • Innovative, solution-orientated, and brings new ideas. 

  • Flexible and adaptable attitude 

  • Passionate about the mission of RTI and aligned with our values 

  • Able to travel to Greece periodically  



  • Experience using Microsoft Sharepoint 

  • Experience working in the humanitarian sector, and/or for a start-up or grassroots organisation 

  • Demonstrated interest in RTI’s areas of programming, e.g. volunteer or paid work related to mental health support and wellbeing, migration and displacement, and/or early childhood development and education.  

  • Understanding of responsible data policies and GDPR 

  • Additional languages, particularly those from the Middle East 

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: The role holder will have detailed understanding of RTI’s Child Safeguarding and protection Policy as they will be involved in programmes for children.
