Job description

We are currently recruiting for the following three trustee positions:

  • Fundraising Expert Trustee
  • Fundraising Trustee
  • Governance Trustee

Fundraising Trustees

To ensure that we can maintain our experienced and effective coordination team on the ground, and can continue to grow our operations over the coming years, fundraising is one of our priorities. We are recruiting two trustees to take the lead in this area, primarily through trusts and grants applications. We are aiming to recruit one experienced fundraising professional as a Fundraising Expert Trustee, and one fundraising/charity professional who is looking to gain more experience in fundraising, by taking a leading role in our fundraising activities as Fundraising Trustee.

The Fundraising Expert Trustee will use their knowledge of charity fundraising to provide strategic direction and advice to the Fundraising Trustee. They will be an experienced fundraising professional looking to share their expertise and experience to help further the development of our small, new charity.

The Fundraising Trustee will take the lead on researching and applying to appropriate trusts and grants, with the support and guidance of the Fundraising Expert Trustee. They will have a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding of charity fundraising and will have significant autonomy to take the lead on developing our grants pipeline and application process. They will have the support of the Fundraising Expert Trustee, and will work alongside our Field Coordinator who is based in Greece, as well as recruiting and supporting interns and volunteers, who will work on specific pieces of research and applications to share the workload. They will work closely with current members of our Board, in particular our trustees who focus on recruitment (who will support with fundraising intern and volunteer recruitment), and our trustee and volunteers who focus on Monitoring and Evaluation (the effective application of which will enable effective impact reporting to support the grant applications process).

We expect the Fundraising Trustee to work actively on our fundraising strategy and applications, and give 3-4 hours per week to the role. We expect the Fundraising Expert Trustee to act in more of an advisory capacity, and to give 3-6 hours per month to the role.

If you are unsure about whether you would qualify to be our Fundraising Expert Trustee, we are happy to consider an application for either role. Please mark this clearly on your application.

Governance Trustee

The Governance Trustee will be responsible for ensuring that our governance policies and procedures contribute to the effective, legal, and responsible operation of the charity. As a growing charity, we are keen to ensure our systems and policies provide a solid foundation for all our operations. This opportunity will suit someone who is looking to make a major impact with a small, growing charity.

The Governance Trustee will be responsible for:

  • Researching, developing, and implementing robust policies for our operations both in the UK and in Greece.
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and transparent working of the charity; including setting key goals and key performance indicators.
  • Developing evaluation and monitoring frameworks to ensure operations effectively align with our mission and vision.
  • Supporting our Field Coordinator in ensuring day-to-day operations comply with our policies and goals.

The role will suit someone who:

  • Has experience of good governance, particularly within a UK charity context– a charity worker, lawyer, or someone who has experience of governance systems through their own voluntary work
  • Is proactive, well-organised, and with a keen eye for detail
  • Has a lot of self-motivation, and enjoys taking the initiative and leading on projects.
  • They will be looking for opportunities to take the lead in a new and growing organisation, and will be interested in improving the quality of education received by refugees.

We expect the Governance Trustee to spend 3-4 hours per week on this role.
