JOB POST SUMMARY

This is an unique opportunity to shape the UK strategy and campaigns of a newly launched pan-European environmental NGO.

RePlanet (www.replanet.ngo) has a radical plan to end the trifecta crises of global heating, biodiversity collapse and animal exploitation. Our vision is to see 50%+ of Europe rewilded, animal agriculture ended, our climate restored and poverty eradicated.

Our route to achieving these aims is ambitious and - to some traditional environmentalists - controversial. By rooting our campaigning in peer reviewed scientific literature we defend and promote science-backed solutions that have been neglected or even opposed by other green groups. Whilst working on traditional green issues such as rigorously opposing fossil fuel expansion, we also see hope in technologies such as precision fermentation (a way of producing proteins and fats using microbes instead of slaughtered animals), advanced nuclear power (alongside much needed wind and solar) and genetically engineered crops (to reduce pesticide use, save land and increase climate resilience). In our agriculture work, we are campaigning for many of the proposals set out by George Monbiot in his new book Regenesis.

ABOUT YOU

As a newly launched organisation we’re looking for a highly-skilled all rounder prepared to take risks and be highly entrepreneurial in designing and implementing creative campaigns. Most importantly we’re looking for someone with a vocational passion to save our planet before it’s too late and an unflinching commitment to follow the science, even if it involves taking controversial positions.

You will be someone with significant experience in campaigning and/or grassroots activism. You’ll have a badass track record of getting campaigns into the mainstream press, getting the attention of politicians, using social media as a campaign tool and organising street level protests to affect change. Overall you’ll have the creativity and confidence to experiment with new tactics that can achieve the change we want to see.

You’ll be a brilliant communicator, confident to speak on behalf of the organisation as a spokesperson and to stand up in front of a room full of people to recruit new followers to our movement. You’ll be well read in climate, environmentalism and politics and have a special interest in either agriculture or energy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The job is to help launch a new UK node of RePlanet and to be its lead campaign manager in coordination with Campaigns Director Joel Scott-Halkes and Campaign Strategist (and renowned climate author) Mark Lynas.

As the lead Campaign Manager of a new UK node of RePlanet you will manage its campaigning efforts as we focus on two principal campaign objectives: (1) To end all state support for animal agriculture and see an urgent transition to precision fermentation + plant based diets (2) To unite conservation charities and green NGO's behind support for advanced nuclear power and large scale rewilding as an alternative to high land use forms of renewables that harm biodiversity (such as biofuels).

You’ll meet regularly with RePlanet’s European team, sharing learnings and resources with campaigners in 8 different European countries whilst also occasionally pitching in to help RePlanet’s EU wide campaign objectives in Brussels. Your role may include some, or all, of the following depending on the strategy you help develop:

  • Direct lobbying of decision makers

  • Media advocacy (writing op eds / pitching stories to journalists about our campaigns)

  • Organising street level protests and stunts

  • Commissioning tactical opinion polling

  • Working with RePlanet’s research team to create and disseminate tactical pieces of research

  • Working with RePlanet’s video production team to create and disseminate unique social media content

  • Managing our list building activists as we seek to build our mailing list and social media following

  • Engaging volunteers who want to support the movement

Growing out of a Europe-wide network of 150+ ‘eco-progressive’ volunteers, RePlanet is a bold new venture with a unique take on today’s pressing environmental issues. RePlanet is entirely charitably funded and strictly accepts no funding from industry or political parties.
