Job description

About Reprieve

Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and to end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”.

Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. Thus, Reprieve promotes and protects the rights of those facing the death penalty and those who are the victims of extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”, with a focus on arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial executions.

Reprieve’s main office is in Aldgate, London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. We work closely with a number of partner organisations in
jurisdictions all over the world, who provide access to clients, expertise, knowledge and guidance on specific issues or regions. We work in cooperation with relevant government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders to further the cause of our shared goals.

About this role

We are looking for a Supporter Engagement Officer to join the Campaigns team. The Campaigns team exists to raise awareness of Reprieve’s work, shift public opinion and to inspire action ultimately resulting in people donating to fund our work. Your role will be to engage Reprieve’s current supporters, encouraging and motivating them to take action and donate.

You will be joining at an exciting time, as the team builds its first mass engagement strategy to promote the long-term growth of the programme. Digital fundraising boomed between 2020 and 2021 but we have faced recent challenges. As we build our new strategy we are looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual, keen to try new things and learn through testing, excited about communicating Reprieve’s work to our supporters and inspiring them to take action.

You will be key to the retention of our supporters, creating inspiring communications plans to steward our supporters and encourage them to donate or to take action. By connecting them to our work, you will help them to become long term advocates for the cause. You will lead on our email programme with support from the Head of Digital and the Campaigns and Digital officer, as well as developing new and innovative ways that we can engage with our supporters.

As a small team we have a collaborative and “all hands on deck” approach, ready to step in and support each other. This means at times you will support on our acquisition work, as well as helping the wider Development Team when needed.

You will share our commitment to fighting against racism and advancing racial justice, and understand our responsibility to do our work in a way that does not compound racist structures.

Location, contract and salary

The annual salary is £39,772 less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.

Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such, this is a role that may
require work outside of core office hours from time to time. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% of their time from the London office and the rest of the week from home.

Further details and how to apply

Please review the job description for full details including a person specification and information on how to apply. The deadline for applications is 03 January 2024.
