About the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) The RJC is a membership, standards and certification body for sustainability in the jewellery and watch supply chain, since 2005. In the last few years we have seen our membership grow significantly, and have now passed the milestone of over 1,100 member companies.

We define responsible business practices for companies through our mandatory Code of Practices (COP) standard. Our scope includes gold, platinum group metals, silver, diamonds and coloured stones. We certify companies large and small dealing with these materials across the supply chain – from mine to retail. RJC’s Chain of Custody (CoC) voluntary standard enables members to source and trade sustainably produced/sourced materials through the supply chain.

Certification audits are carried out through independent third party accredited auditors. RJC issues certification to members based on the auditor’s certification recommendation.

RJC is a full member of the ISEAL Alliance and as such, we comply with and are assessed annually against the ISEAL codes of good practice on (1) standard setting, (2) assurance, and (3) impact assessment. About this role

Jewellery supply chains comprise a diverse range of different types and sizes of businesses, spread across a large number of countries. The knowledge, resources and management skills available within these businesses for application of responsible supply chain practices is extremely variable.

Therefore, providing tailored training, guidance and support is a critical part of ensuring effective and efficient implementation of standards. It also helps to overcome barriers that may be created by perceived complexity and cost of compliance.

Auditor training is also an important area since it is essential for RJC to ensure that auditors are well-equipped to carry out audits for their businesses, respecting the diversity of size, sector of supply chain and geography.

These areas are currently managed by a Senior Manager, Member and Stakeholder Training, who will be on maternity leave from mid-July 2019. We are looking for a Training Coordinator to ensure the day to day running of the ‘helpdesk’ during this maternity leave.

The Training Coordinator reports to the Director, Membership Services.

Purpose of the role

  1. Ensure that members (and relevant stakeholders) have access to focused training and guidance to support the certification journey.
  2. Ensure that new and existing auditors are trained to RJC’s criteria and assessed as needed.
  3. Maintain tools and programs for member and auditor support and development. This could include webinars that encourage best practices in the various member sectors, support for Trade Association members of the RJC, and boutique training tailored to member companies.

The primary areas of responsibility for the role are as follows:

The Training Coordinator is responsible for responding to queries and questions from RJC commercial members, trade association members, auditors and other stakeholders through the ‘helpdesk’. A breakdown of the different areas of responsibility are outlined below.


  • Answering calls and emails from members and potential members on the RJC certification system, standard requirements and preparing for their audit – with the launch of our new code in April and supporting documentation from July, we see queries on the new code to escalate
    • Log issues that arise and potential resolutions, to either implement or record for the Senior Training Manager upon her return
  • Coordinate translation of member material where necessary and upload and maintain on the RJC website
  • Reach out and support to members on a one year certification
  • Review and update as necessary the excel self-assessments when any issues arise – these are used by member companies to prepare for their audits
  • Keep the RJC website up to date with member training/support material as necessary
  • Keep up to date records on worketc (our current CRM)
  • Edit, maintain and/or coordinate the development of member training materials. This may include:
    • Liaising with certification colleagues on urgent issues that may arise from their review of audit reports
    • Maintaining videos on the RJC website (some of which may in a different language)
    • Maintaining material on the COP and CoC requirements eg templates
  • Develop and host RJC webinars every quarter – please note this is a desirable element of the role
  • Any other ad-hoc duties including working with standards colleagues on the development of revised versions of the Human Rights Due Diligence toolkit and Risk Assessment Toolkit.


  • Answering emails/calls from auditors on the RJC and auditing of our standards
  • Marking auditor training assessments, liaising with the certification team and updating worketc accordingly
  • Attending monthly meetings with the certification and assurance team to review current issues/concerns
    • The Training Coordinator will need to log issues for calls with auditors, development of new auditor training materials, or communication to members/auditors. Issues should also be logged for the Senior Training Manager to review upon her return
  • Scheduling and taking calls with audit program managers as required
  • Working with certification and assurance colleagues to draft and send (via the RJC communication desk) the quarterly audit firm e-newsletter  
  • Maintenance of the auditor training webpage
  • Maintenance of the template audit reports for auditors to submit to RJC after audits
  • Edit, maintain and/or coordinate auditor training materials.

Person specification

RJC is looking for a candidate who has passion and commitment and identify with the values of the RJC. The candidate should be:

  • Good level of understanding of sustainability issues (such as business ethics, environmental impact, labour and working conditions, health & safety, responsible sourcing and human rights)

  • Managing multiple priorities in an organized and efficient way
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel & Outlook and virtual meeting tools (e.g. Skype, Zoom)
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment, including liaising with people where English is not their first language
  • Accurate with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to prioritise work effectively and to cope with tight schedules in a calm and efficient manner
  • Experience of working in a small team
  • Legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom.

Salary:  Dependent on experience

Contract: Initial 12 month term. This contract will provide cover during the absence of the current postholder on maternity leave.

Hours: Part time 3 days a week: normal office hours are 09:00 –17:30 Monday to Friday

Annual leave: 28 days per annum pro-rata, plus UK bank holidays
