We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Campaigns Officer to join us on a permanent basis. This is a fixed based role - currently home working. The successful candidate will be required to work from the London office a minimum of 3 days a week upon the team's return to office.
The objectives of the Campaigns and Communications team are to increase the public profile of Rethink Mental Illness, mobilise public and parliamentary support to bring about change and ensure that all colleagues are aware of, bought into and engaged in contributing to the values and direction of the Charity.

What will you be doing?
- I plan, coordinate and deliver online and offline campaigning across the Campaigns, Public Affairs and Communications teams
- I shape the development of effective campaign strategies alongside the Campaign Manager and the Head of Campaigns and Public Affairs
- I develop and implement clear and effective communications and digital content plans for our campaigns, in coordination with colleagues in the Communications Team.
- I lead on recruiting and working closely with people with lived experience of mental illness to highlight their experiences to campaign for change
- I write powerful copy to inspire various audiences and present complex information in a clear and persuasive way for a range of audiences such as our campaigners, members, services and groups
- I lead on writing campaigns content and resources for internal and external communications, including website pages, blogs, campaigning guides, social media posts, e-communications and our quarterly membership magazine Your Voice
- I contribute ideas for new campaigns and proactively seek the input and thoughts of people with lived experience of mental illness
- I work with public affairs colleagues to ensure that our online and offline activism supports our work in parliament and vice versa
- I lead on supporting people with lived experience and Rethink Mental Illness local group members to campaign at a national and local level, through meeting with local decision makers, attending parliamentary events, responding to government consultations, taking part in media opportunities and/or sharing their stories via our online platforms
- I work with colleagues in the digital teams to ensure our online campaigns are visually appealing and creative
- I work alongside and support the team administrator in day-to-day tasks and (where required) provide training in using our online platforms and software systems
- I manage our campaigns email inbox, responding to external requests and general enquiries from members of the public
- I manage campaigning projects, such as leading smaller campaigns or leading significant aspects of major campaigns
- I work with internal colleagues and external agencies to manage our supporter data and ensure it is up-to-date and complies with GDPR law
- I carry out research into how we can improve how we campaign and keep up-to-date with current campaigning trends, practice and opportunities
- I share the day-to-day workload of the team where required such as taking minutes or arranging meetings.
Do you have what we are looking for?
- I have experience of devising and using effective campaign tactics (both online and offline)
- I have a meticulous eye for detail when writing communications
- I can manage complex projects, working across teams to ensure they are implemented effectively
- I have experience of website content management systems and know how to create engaging web content.
- I have experience of using online campaigning to create petitions and email-to target -actions.
- I am effective at using social media in support of campaigns and keep up with social media trends
- I know how to use email marketing software to communicate with warm audiences.
- I use my own initiative to drive campaigns forward to achieve our influencing objectives.
- I have excellent organisational skills with the ability to organise and plan my own work and the work of others to deliver objectives on time.
- I am creative, with the ability to develop new ways of delivering messages so that campaigns make an impact. I am comfortable working with data, with experience of using databases and Microsoft Excel.
- I am a persuasive communicator, in person and in writing.
- I work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders to achieve outcomes and impacts.
- I am able to respond positively to unforeseen challenges.
- I deal with stressful and difficult situations in a calm manner.
