Job description

Rockingham Forest Trust is seeking a Director to run both its charitable and social enterprise operation at Stanwick Lakes, a beautiful countryside attraction and nature reserve in the Nene Valley. This busy and successful site attracts around 300,000 visits per year and provides the perfect platform for the charitable Trust to deliver its environmental and heritage projects, bringing people closer to nature and engaging them with history in ways which educate, involve and inspire.

The Executive Director will be responsible for the smooth operation of the enterprise, which includes catering, a shop and various other income streams, as well as the effective running and development of the charity and its various funded projects.

This is a hands-on role, managing a small team to deliver excellence across a variety of disciplines.   The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who can combine a flair for business and profit generation with a passion for developing charitable projects which benefit the community and environment. They will report to a Board of Trustees.

Job Description

  • Manage and develop the staff teams across the Stanwick Lakes/RFT operation (rangers, catering, retail/reception, and core charitable projects) and ensure excellent customer service
  • Develop and implement a robust three year business plan for post-pandemic operation
  • Take responsibility for the financial performance of the entire operation, generating a healthy profit which can support the charity’s work
  • Strengthen and develop partnerships with external organisations (eg the local Council, which is the landowner)
  • Identify creative approaches to enhance the offer at Stanwick Lakes
  • Work with the Trust Chairman and Board of Trustees to ensure good governance and the best strategic direction for the organisation

About you:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role
  • An excellent level of commercial awareness and drive
  • Experience of performance reporting,  budget setting and delivery
  • Understanding and experience of working for a charity, and of fundraising
  • Good communication & PR skills and the ability to promote the Trust externally
