Job description

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity, is seeking a fundraising and communications professional with extensive experience in the charity or commercial sector to double its reach to RAF Family members in urgent need.

Since its foundation 100 years ago, the RAF Benevolent Fund has supported past and present members of the Royal Air Force and their dependents who are in need, whether that is through practical, emotional or financial support.

In 2019, the charity launched a three-year, multi-channel and multi-million-pound campaign to double their reach from c.50,000 to 100,000 beneficiaries and to celebrate their Centenary year. They are now looking for an ambitious, experienced fundraising and communications leader to join their team and ensure that the campaign delivers on its targets. The role will support the work of a strong senior management team and a new CEO who joins the charity in Spring 2020.

As Director of Fundraising & Communications you will lead the charity’s income generation, awareness building and supporter, service user and public engagement programmes including the development and implementation of fundraising, communications and marketing strategies.

It is essential that you know how to lead, build and sustain teams and to deliver results. You will have a broad knowledge of fundraising (corporate and major donor fundraising and direct marketing in particular), communications, marketing and digital workstreams and be experienced in developing and implementing new business ideas. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong networking capabilities and proven abilities in delivering against challenging targets.
