Job description

Philanthropy Manager

9 - 12 month maternity contract

£38,500 per annum,

London with regular travel to RHS Wisley in Surrey and other RHS gardens.

The Royal Horticultural Society has been the force behind gardening for more than 200 years.  Best known for our world famous flower shows and gardens, our charitable work is diverse and includes connecting millions of children with nature through the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, supporting RHS Britain in Bloom, and conducting essential horticultural science research.

We believe everyone in every village, town and city should benefit from growing plants to enhance lives, build stronger, healthier, happier communities and create better places to live.  We want to enrich everyone’s life through plants and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.

The RHS is currently 5 years into a major investment programme, which includes a range of exciting new capital and non-capital projects. As part of this programme we are creating a brand new National Centre for Horticultural Science and Learning at RHS Garden Wisley, which will open in September 2020.

We are looking for a confident Philanthropy Manager to join the team for 9-12 months as maternity cover, to lead the focus on raising the final £2m for the new centre from a portfolio of major donors, companies and family foundations, as well as fundraising for other appeals and projects, working closely with the President of the RHS and other RHS Council members.

Building on a strong understanding of the major donor sector, your role will focus on reaching our financial targets, along with expanding our current networks and managing our cultivation and engagement events to secure significant funding from high net worth individuals, companies and other trusts. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, you will be part of a small team based in London.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a major donor fundraiser who has experience of working closely with senior volunteers.  During this time you will manage three direct reports, including two Philanthropy Executives and one Philanthropy Administrator.
