The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity (RMCC) raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. Together with the hospital we ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, RMCC funds the development of new ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Our recent emergency appeal raised over £2m to support hospital staff and patients through the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are entering a new and ambitious three year strategy to grow out underlying income, and provide significant grant making to the hospital. Along with funding an existing world-class programme of research, treatment and care, we are also raising £70 million, our biggest capital appeal to date, to build the Oak Cancer Centre that will provide radical new solutions for the research and treatment of cancer.
The Grants Team is central to achieving the Charity’s objectives and manages all funding awarded to the hospital, including all grants and Special Purpose Funds (SPFs). In March 2020, RMCC Trustees approved the 2020-2025 Grants Strategy which proposed that £55million is made available to the hospital, over the 5-year strategic period, to support what is of greatest strategic need to the hospital. Future grants will fund vital patient services, innovative research and the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment. We also hold over 150 SPFs which are restricted to purposes of research, patient services and staff benefit.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual preferably with some experience of grants and/or funds administration to help manage the day-to-day and long-term processes of the RMCC Grants Team. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the post holder will be highly organised with a strong attention to detail. They will work within a growing and dynamic Grants Team to support the Charity’s grants programme as well as dealing with matters relating to our SPFs. The role would suit someone who is passionate about the work of the Royal Marsden and understands the importance of effective management of donations as we strive to meet the wishes of our valued donors.
The Grants & SPF Assistant will work closely with, and report to, the Grants Manager. They will also support the Senior SPF Executive with administration of SPFs and may be asked to undertake additional tasks as requested by the Head of Grants.
