Job description
Company: Royal Society of Chemistry
Job title: Director of People & Culture
Job reference: ZAOAKB
Closing date: Friday, 12th August

Chemistry is at the centre of everything you can see, smell, touch and taste.

Whether studying the chemistry of life, or developing the advanced science behind modern technology, chemical scientists use their expertise to improve our health, our environment and our daily lives. The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is the professional body for chemistry and an international scientific publisher of high-quality, peer-reviewed journals. As a not-for-profit organisation, the RSC is also the voice of the chemical sciences, driving change and delivering impact, in partnership with its global community of members, authors teachers and volunteers.

The RSC’s 600 staff are at the heart of the organisation. Teams operate worldwide and are supported to work flexibly in a way that best suits their ability to support the RSC’s stakeholders and communities and to deliver key strategic goals.

Under the leadership of the RSC’s Chief Executive, Helen Pain, the organisation has developed Strategy 2021-2025. At its core, Strategy 2021-2025 sets out a plan for the RSC to help the chemical science community make the world a better place. This also includes a programme which acknowledges the key role that chemistry plays in addressing the UN sustainable development goals. To achieve this, the RSC must be better connected, both internally and externally, with inclusion and diversity as a priority throughout all its work. To ensure the successful delivery of this strategy, and to ensure it can develop, attract and retain a diverse and talented employee base, the RSC is now seeking to appoint a senior leader to become its new Director of People and Culture.

Candidates will bring experience in providing operational and strategic HR leadership and evidence of implementing meaningful strategic change at Board level in organisations of comparable scale and complexity. The RSC is looking for an individual with a track record in delivering generalist HR and OD services: an outstanding communicator, able to influence and innovate to ensure the RSC’s strategic people plan aligns and contributes to the organisation’s overall strategic plan 2021 – 2025 and beyond.

At a time of great ambition and growth for the RSC and in a world of unparalleled global change the RSC must be a conduit for innovation, investment and thought leadership to support a thriving chemical sciences sector of the future. This is a unique opportunity to help support this vision.
We are fully supportive of making any reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process to ensure no candidate is disadvantaged as a result of a disability or any other health condition.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the Royal Society of Chemistry on this appointment.
