Job description

Female Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate (IDSVA)

This vacancy is only open to female applicants as an occupational requirement exception under Sch 9 of the Equality Act 2010.  This vacancy is subject to Enhanced DBS and prison vetting.

To deliver an integrated IDSVA resettlement service within HMP Eastwood Park and women returning to Wales who are based within HMP Styal.  With particular responsibility to identify Domestic or Sexual abuse/violence, safeguard and support and provide advocacy to women who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual violence:   Work in partnership with local CRCs to support the co-ordination of gender-informed resettlement services to women. 

Candidates are expected to have a relevant professional qualification or demonstrable experience of working with survivors.

Candidates are expected to be accredited SafeLives formerly  CAADA (Coordinated Action Against Domestic Abuse) IDSVA and other training and the development of new skills, where appropriate.

An understanding of domestic abuse, including key issues affecting women, and their families and friends.

Experience of providing an appropriate and effective service to clients, through a multi-agency referral system.

Experience of providing appropriate support and guidance to women who are experiencing domestic abuse, through one to one contact, face to face or by telephone.

An understanding of sexual assault and rape, its likelihood, circumstances, and potential effects on women, and their families and friends.

A willingness to self-inform on a regular basis, to be up to date with information and research relating to both domestic abuse itself, and measures which can be taken to support or protect women.

The ability to work independently and within a team.

The ability to, or willingness to be trained to, deliver training in good practice to other agencies.

Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise work.

Good IT skills including data entry, word processing and use of email and the internet.

Commitment to the ethos of Safer Wales.

Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills at all levels.
