Job Description


Amal is a programme of the Said Foundation making grants in the UK in support of a rich diversity of arts projects and activities, including storytelling, visual arts, theatre, poetry, film, music and dance. The programme aims to further the following dual interlinked objectives:

  1. To increase understanding of Britain’s Muslim communities among people of other faiths and none;
  2. To foster a stronger sense of belonging in the UK among Muslim communities.

Following an extremely successful pilot year in 2017, Amal has received funding for its next phase from SF. We are currently seeking a Grants Manager to help us touch the lives of many, creating greater understanding and bringing people together in creative, innovative and exciting ways. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a small and highly committed team in a fast-paced environment. The role will involve management of Amal’s grant-making activities, contribution to the Programme’s strategic objectives and other grants-related support to the Amal team.


a) Grants Management

  1. In close collaboration with the Programme Manager, to manage all grants made by Amal, ensuring that they are in line with the Programme’s objectives, values and criteria.
  2. To monitor the online application system and organise application reviews with the Programme Manager and SF CEO.
  3. To conduct detailed assessments of applicants including site visits and due diligence checks.
  4. To draft and maintain due diligence reports, grant agreements and other grants-related documents.
  5. To act as the main point of contact for Amal grantees at each stage of the grants process.
  6. To maintain records of grant applications, awards and reports, to monitor milestones and payments due, and to advise the Programme Manager and SF Financial Controller accordingly.
  7. To distribute and compile materials for monitoring and evaluation of all grants.
  8. To arrange team visits to grant-related events and activities.
  9. To attend Amal supported project activities whenever possible.

b) Other Support

  1. To assist in developing Amal’s networks and expertise in fields relevant to its work.
  2. To develop and maintain electronic and paper archives.
  3. To maintain and update Amal’s database and administrative lists.
  4. To ensure all data held is in line with current Data Protection requirements.
  5. To be flexible in providing assistance and support in other duties as required.
  6. To contribute to good relations and a harmonious spirit among all SF staff and to making its office function as effectively as possible.



  • At least two years’ experience in a role of relevance to Amal’s field of work
  • Bachelor degree
  • Hands-on solution-oriented approach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proofreading and editing skills
  • Numerate and IT confident
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage deadlines
  • Flexible and cooperative attitude
  • Commitment to the objectives of Amal


  • Master’s degree
  • Experience of working in a theatre or arts organisation
  • Knowledge and experience of Muslim communities in the UK

Salary: Dependent on experience

Hours: Monday-Friday; 09.30-17.30. Additional hours at evenings or weekends, and travel/overnight stays away from London will be required from time to time to attend Amal-supported activities
