Job Description

8 month Fixed Term Contract

Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children? Then join us as Children’s Places Programme Manager. You will work as part of a team leading the development, planning and delivery of Children’s Places; a community-led approach to tackle inequality of opportunity and outcome for children growing up in poverty within an identified locality.

In our UK and Global Programmes department, we fight for children every single day. We deliver humanitarian and development programmes. We build partnerships with institutional donors, including governments, multi-laterals and trusts. We drive lasting change. We go the extra mile - and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As Children’s Places Programme Manager you will help us to promote, deliver and bring to scale our innovative programme to improve the lives of children living in poverty in Scotland. You will be expected to identify and build strong partnerships and relationships with members of the Community Planning Partnership and other relevant local agencies and develop a clear understanding of the area to ensure high quality interventions are delivered sustainably. In addition you will:

  • Deliver a programme of engagement at community level which involves children, families, partner organisations and community groups in the design of interventions that tackle child poverty
  • Support the participation of children, families and communities in the planning and delivery of services/support that addresses locally-specific priorities
  • Gather data to support the development of local action plans and develop a network of community champions locally
  • Contribute to fundraising activities and co=ordinate donor engagement visits and events.

To be successful you will have excellent knowledge and experience of coordinating and delivering a range of programmes within agreed outcomes, timescale, budgets and targets. Flexible and proactive, you will have a keen understanding of the nature and impact that poverty has on children, families and neighbourhoods, and the barriers that local communities face in seeking to bring about positive changes in outcomes. In addition you will have:

  • The ability to communicate clearly and confidently, to both internal and external audiences and have experience of building and sustaining networks and relationships
  • The ability to work in different community and school-based contexts, with different age groups of children and their families
  • Project management experience including planning, delivery, impact and evaluation
  • Developed IT skills in Microsoft Office with the ability to be self-administrating
  • Working knowledge of Improvement Methodology and experience of carrying out tests of change.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
