Job description

Do you want to play a key leadership role in creating positive change across Save the Children and the lives of children we fight for by shaping and leading our diversity and inclusion agenda?

If you do, come and join us as Director of Diversity and Inclusion; a highly visible role which will work closely with all our people, including our Executive Leadership Team, Board of Trustees and Equalities Networks.

Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) sits at the heart of who we are and who we aspire to be. Our approach to diversity and inclusion is connected to the way we work with children, encompassing respect, fairness, and equality. We recognise that acting on these values requires a willingness to challenge all forms of discrimination, an ability to listen deeply to others lived experiences and move decisively to action that will create positive change.

The Executive Leadership Team have recently made a series of commitments to anti-racism building on this approach. We know we still have a long way to go – but we are absolutely committed to getting there and doing it well. Getting this right is a condition for doing the best we can for children.

Our ambition is to be a leader in all things D&I across the charity sector and seen as a case study for what brilliant looks like. It’s not for the faint-hearted but you have a committed CEO and Leadership Team and engaged organisation to work with in making this a reality. As we’ve just started, we’re looking for an energetic and passionate Director/ Senior Specialist – which we hope will be you.

In this role you will have responsibility for the implementation of our D&I strategy (co-created with staff) and ensuring it remains relevant and fit for purpose.

You’ll need to be adept at striking a balance between openness and applying a consultative approach whilst ensuring clear decision-making. It would be helpful if you had experience of applying D&I to policy and programmatic work given our work with marginalised communities – however experience of successfully applying your expertise to external facing work across products and services is just as valuable.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

If you share our belief in the power of children, join the fight. It takes relentless determination, creativity and a real commitment to real change. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world, and help to build a better future. We look forward to hearing from you.
