We’re looking for a qualified accountant with experience of providing strategic and finance business partnering support at all levels to join us as a Finance Business Partner.

The Organisation

The Humanitarian Leadership Academy (Academy) is a global learning initiative with a mission to enable people to prepare for and respond to crises in their own countries. To achieve this, the Academy acts as a catalyst for the improved quality, accessibility and sustainability of humanitarian learning and knowledge so that the delivery of aid is more effective, immediate, and local – saving lives and safe-guarding livelihoods.

As Finance Business Partner you will be part of our Finance Department, working with and influencing colleagues overseeing a large awards portfolio delivered in a mixed development and humanitarian context.  In this role you will drive strong financial control and advocate financial priorities to the business. You will provide strategic and financial decision support to the programme and country finance staff where appropriate to underpin strong financial performance. In addition, you will:

  • Prepare monthly reports and lead monthly business reviews with the assigned teams and communicate understanding of financial performance
  • Assist award leads in the creation and review of donor budgets, ensuring cost recovery is adequately included
  • Support and drive the business to ensure donor billing and cash collection targets are met
  • Liaise closely with relevant Global Programmes teams and country offices to ensure quality of finance and award data in our systems
  • Identify areas where processes could be improved and collaboratively work with other teams to implement relevant changes where appropriate, while maximising consistency between areas.

A technically proficient qualified accountant, you will have relevant experience in the commercial or charity sector of providing strategic and finance business partnering support across the organisation at all levels, up to at least senior management level. You will also have:

  • Experience in the preparation of management accounts, financial planning and budgeting processes
  • Strong customer and quality orientation; solution-focused and confident in operating in a changing environment
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship skills
  • An energetic, flexible and proactive approach with the ability to work both independently, with a high degree of self-sufficiency, and co-operatively within a team setting
  • The ability and willingness to travel outside the UK.

Closing date: 24th May 2019.
