Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children every single day? We are looking for a committed and experienced Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Advisor to join our Technical Rapid Response Team (TRRT) in an internationally mobile role.

In our Humanitarian department, we fight for children every single day. We integrate emergency and development work, through our country programmes. We increase our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. We go the extra mile - and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As the Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Advisor you will provide senior leadership for the Tech-RRT when deployed and be responsible for improving the delivery of IYCF-E.responses in rapid onset and protracted emergencies globally. You will strive to improve the technical quality of programs and assessments for improved nutrition outcomes of affected populations in emergencies and protracted crisis situations. When not deployed you will supporting global or regional initiatives, often through the research and capacity building priorities of the Emergency Nutrition Working Group. In addition you will:

  • Ensure adequate coordination for IYCF-E is in place through either establishing, leading or providing substantial support to the IYCF-E technical working group
  • Lead IYCF-E assessments and advocate for inclusion of IYCF-E in multi sector rapid assessments
  • Design appropriate and evidence based IYCF-E response plans
  • Advocate for adherence to global standard for appropriate infant feeding in emergencies
  • Advocate for prioritisation of the most vulnerable: orphans or unaccompanied infants, the non-breastfed child, new-borns, infants affected by HIV and AIDS
  • Assess capacity building needs across partners and develop a plan for meeting these; conduct Training of Trainers (TOTs) for Ministries, train field workers/first responders, and hold orientations for stakeholders
  • Provide logistical advice (i.e. supplies for Mother Baby Areas, BMS kits, Breast Feeding kits).

To be successful you will have significant and progressive experience in the implementation and management of humanitarian nutrition programmes, as well as in designing and leading IYCF-E assessments.  You will also have a post graduate qualification in a relevant subject, Master of Public Health, Nutrition or equivalent field experience. In addition you will have:

  • Field experience in several and diverse acute emergencies as well as protracted crisis settings
  • Proficiency in French is highly desirable, and knowledge of another language is an asset (Arabic, Spanish)
  • Highly developed technical competencies in nutrition in emergencies, and specifically IYCF-E
  • Strong skills in coordination and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including nutrition clusters, partners and the Ministry of Health
  • Highly developed writing and communication skills – both at a programmatic level and a policy level
  • The ability to travel at short notice, to potentially remote and insecure locations.
