Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and driven Java Engineer to join us and aid the implementation of Save the Children UK’s digital transformation programme. As part of the Information Systems team you will build and maintain high quality and maintainable code that is well performing, secure and follows all coding standards.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Support Services department provides leadership and direction in the business of running an efficient organisation and ensuring our resources are used to maximum effect. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

It is an exciting time to join Save the Children UK. The organisation is embarking on a significant business change Programme, which has involved replacing old website with a brand new one. In this role you will be fundamental to the success of this Programme by providing technologies which empower and enable Save the Children UK to fulfill its mission efficiently and cost effectively. You will:

  • Build shippable software following Engineering standards
  • Develop, build and maintain all aspects of the platforms Java code
  • Ensure the code delivered is on time and is of the required quality
  • Help to maintain the high standard of the code by following test and behaviour driven development
  • Review code of other developers to ensure the overall code quality and to encourage a collaborative development environment
  • Keep up to date with the latest technologies and methodologies to ensure Save the Children UK stays ahead of the game
  • Ensure a globally robust and highly scalable approach to development to support our growing number of global users and services.

To be successful, you will have a strong programming background, with proven experience delivering enterprise level website development using Adobe Experience Manager. Driven to constantly improve your skill set and work with new technologies, you will also:

  • Have solid experience of developing online or multi-channel transactional applications with the required technologies and concepts
  • Be a team player with the ability to work collaboratively with others at all levels internally and externally
  • Have the ability to work in a fast paced agile environment
  • Be passionate about digital/web technology with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Be capable of managing multiple conflicting priorities and able to work under pressure
  • Have strong communication skills – including technical & business stakeholders and third-party technical representatives.
