Job Description

Fixed term contract for 12 months

We are looking for an efficient and flexible self-starter to join us as Donation Acceptance Project Manager and work with a range of stakeholders to support the Donation Acceptance Committee in making decisions on whether or not we can accept high risk funding opportunities. This role is pivotal to the integrity and accountability of Save the Children.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Fundraising & Marketing Division exists to inspire millions of people – from individuals, foundations and large corporate organisations – to support our quest for change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Donation Acceptance Project Manager you will ensure that all potential risks, including risks to our brand, reputation, programme and advocacy work, and staff security are considered when accepting high risk donations whilst embedding our Donation Acceptance policy and process across the organisation. Ensuring Save the Children accepts donations that are in line with our mission and values, you will manage our Donation Acceptance Process for UK and global opportunities through conducting in-depth research, engaging with key stakeholders and ensuring decisions are made in a timely manner. You will have the opportunity to work closely with both Fundraisers and Trustees to continue to shape and develop the process that supports our Donation Acceptance Policy. In addition, you will:

  • Ensure all multi-year partnerships/donations are reviewed and opportunities are escalated appropriately where the risk profile has changed
  • Work with the Head of Strategy and Performance Operations to ensure the policy evolves to fit the need and strategic direction of the organisation and to increase the visibility of the policy across the organisation
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with the Donation Acceptance Committee
  • Deliver regular reporting on Donation Acceptance for the Board of Trustees and Executive Director Group
  • Support the Global Donation Acceptance process which assesses and reviews all global corporate partnerships, working with the Global Corporate Partnerships Group to educate members on the process and develop standardised ways of working.

To be successful in this role you will have a solid background in prospect research, conducting due diligence or similar, and will be used to working in a fast-paced environment, condensing large amounts of information into briefings for Executive Directors and Trustees. You will have a solid understanding of and a keen interest in Save the Children’s mission and values, and how some donor activities may go against those to varying degrees. With excellent analytical and research skills, you will also have prior experience in a similar role, managing due diligence linked to major gifts. In addition you will have:

  • Technical and professional expertise
  • Experience condensing large quantities of information into concise and readable format for Fundraisers, Directors and Trustees, pulling out the key information
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate with impact and work effectively with others
  • Experience managing a donation acceptance or ethical fundraising policy
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to develop relationships at all levels of the organisation.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
