Based in any UK office (Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London or Manchester)

Fixed term contract for 6 months

Part time – 25 hours pw

This role is being created through the Government Kickstart scheme. To qualify for the role, you must be aged between 18-24 years old on 1st July and currently unemployed and on Universal Credit - unfortunately we are not able to open this role to 16 and 17 years olds at this time. You will be given a reference number from your DWP work coach to include in your application.

This role will be based in our HR Resourcing Team which is responsible for helping the organisation to recruit the best talent from across industries and sectors to help ensure Save the Children UK continues to win change for children.

Job Purpose:            

In this 6 month placement, you will be based in our Resourcing Team, and you will report into the Resourcing Strategy Manager.

Join us as a Resourcing Assistant and play a pivotal role in our HR Resourcing team. You will work with the team to assess candidates, support with hiring training and even deliver the best news they can hear – “you got the job!”

This is an important role in the team and your efforts will ensure that we continue to identify talented and diverse candidates who will make a real positive impact for children around the world.

 In return we'll provide you with training in all aspects of the role, as well as weekly programme of sessions which we'd design for you to help build your wider skills and experience.

Key Accountabilities:


  • Conducting basic candidate interviews over the phone
  • Creating lists of potentially suitable candidates

Recruitment Support

  • Writing compelling advert copy
  • Posting adverts on job boards
  • Supporting with arrangements for interviews and assessments
  • Communicating with candidates and hiring managers
  • Providing recruitment training to hiring managers
  • Working with other charities and groups to promote our vacancies


  • Monitoring the Careers inbox
  • Dealing with a variety of queries from candidates, agencies and hiring managers
  • Updating and maintaining our HR intranet page
  • Processing team expenses and invoices


  • Running and preparing a variety of recruitment reports
  • Helping to monitor and evaluate the work we're doing

Essential Technical Competencies:

  • Good working knowledge of computer software systems (e.g. Microsoft Office)

Remote Working:

The majority of SCUK employees are currently working remotely within the UK in line with UK Government guidance. Commencing July 2021 we will transition to flexible and hybrid ways of working (i.e. a mixture of remote/home and office-based working) as social distancing restrictions ease.
