This is a Permanent, Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week.
Location is flexible but as this role will require frequent travel to London (Westminster). It is envisaged that the ideal candidate will be based within 2 hours journey time of London.
There will be some overnight stays and overseas travel by arrangement in advance.
Your work will involve leading teams and partnerships that aim to stop decisions that damage nature, hold decision makers to account on their commitments and promote positive solutions to enable nature restoration at scale through policy and legislation, as well as standards, advice and practice, and developing impactful collaborations with others who share our goals.
We are looking for an experienced and credible environmental leader, with strong political intelligence, able to build influential networks and coalitions across sectors. You will be able to see the big picture, understand the policy detail and the political context. You will be an articulate, persuasive and inspiring communicator for nature. You will facilitate multi-disciplinary teams, including across the countries of UK and international teams, to create advocacy and influencing strategies and propositions that maximise our impact and align people and resources around shared priorities.
Essential skills, knowledge, & experience:
- A passion for nature and a drive to change the fate of nature, and a broad understanding of and engagement in current and future environmental issues.
- Credibility within the environment sector and notable expertise in policy and advocacy - with demonstrable expertise across a breadth of subject areas (e.g. at least three of conservation, agriculture, land use, water, forestry, marine, planning, sites, species, casework, economy, energy, climate.)
- Demonstrable experience of influencing UK politics, governments and/or business frameworks at multiple levels and an in-depth understanding influencing tactics and the political context in which change happens.
- Understanding and experience of leading work which builds Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) into the agenda for policy and advocacy work to drive organisational and societal change.
- Substantial and broad experience of leading a professional function and/or large geographically dispersed team to implement strategy.

Main purpose and scope of the role:
Parentkind is a national charity and we work across all four nations of the United Kingdom and the devolved institutions and governments.
The successful candidate would be expected to support our work in Northern Ireland and have demonstrable experience of the political system in Northern Ireland.
In addition to their work in Northern Ireland the successful candidate will support the wider aims of the Policy and Research Department across the UK.
We are the voice of parents in education, we represent 13,000 Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and have an ambition to develop an internal parent ‘think tank’ within the organisation.
This is an exciting role if you have a passion for politics, a background in policy research and interested in education policy and politics.
The role will involve conducting research on education policy and making policy recommendations based on that research. Some research will be time sensitive and involve summarising information and presenting it in an easy to understand way. There will be longer research projects to support the charity to develop policy positions and maintain our position as a strong voice for parents in education.
Alongside the research requirements of the role, you will be expected to support our political and broader stakeholder engagement activity to make sure the work we do is understood and seen by the right people.
You will have experience of working with political stakeholders in Northern Ireland and a strong understanding of the political structures and processes in Northern Ireland, as well as experience in political engagement to promote research and policy recommendations.

Duties and key responsibilities
Policy research and analysis
- To conduct research on education policy in Northern Ireland under the guidance of the Director of Policy and Research.
- To produce summarise large amounts of information and produce briefing material on education policy for external audiences, often at pace.
- To provide political monitoring and advice for the department, to include:
- debates and questions in the Northern Ireland Assembly
- future business across in the Northern Ireland Assembly,
- policy development.
- To provide rapid briefing material for any relevant future business in the Northern Ireland Assembly
- Draft questions (and an understanding of how to structure questions) in the Northern Ireland Assembly
- To support the development of parent surveys to related to our policy work.
- To support the development of policy recommendations and experience of publishing policy related research.
Political engagement
- To organise policy led events, such as roundtable discussions or meetings of politicians across all U.K. legislatures and experience of managing political events.
- To identify political stakeholders relevant to our work in Northern Ireland, including:
- officials inside government departments,
- elected representatives,
- think tanks and other relevant research institutions.
- To maintain a wide range of political contacts and meet with political stakeholders to promote our research and policy work.
- To meet with organisations with an interest in our work and provide effective briefings.
- To attend party conferences and other education led events to represent Parentkind.
Media engagement
- To support the Director of Policy and Research in media engagement, including background research for press releases.
- To summarise our policy and research ready for social media platforms.
General Responsibilities
- To ensure Data Protection procedures are followed at all times
- To keep abreast of relevant educational policy and legislation affecting our key audiences
- To be flexible within the broad remit of the post.
- To undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the Chief Executive or Director of Policy and Research.
- To attend and participate in Parentkind’s performance, development and training programmes.

About the role
Sightsavers' content and stories team has responsibility for developing creative concepts and content in response to communications briefs, as well as supporting the organisation with video and editorial services, and sourcing photography, video, audio and written stories from projects across Africa and South Asia. This work generates a huge volume of multimedia digital assets which need to be easily searchable by everyone in the organisation. We've recently moved to a new digital asset management system which requires an ongoing process of training and development.
We are looking for a Digital Asset Manager to be responsible for embedding and maintaining our new digital asset management system (Asset Bank), offering training and support to teams using and uploading assets. You'll work closely with content producers and story collectors to develop workflows preparing and uploading new content and you'll lead their implementation. As digital asset manager you'll inspire staff with available content, finding creative ways to make the organisation aware of the assets the team is producing. You'll need to make strategic decisions and plans for optimising and promoting the system and its contents, but you won't shy away from getting stuck into the day to day of preparing and uploading content.
Key duties will include:
* Ownership of digital asset storage systems with strategic decision making about process, structure and content

We are a team of passionate volunteers in the UK and Tanzania who are dedicated to alleviating the extreme poverty that thousands of children in our partner communities face. In 10 years, our team of volunteers have fundraised over £700,000 (approximately 50% of which has come from Trusts and Foundations) and empowered over 25,000 children through our work.
The need for our support in Tanzania, whether that’s constructing new classrooms, delivering menstruation programmes or installing clean water, is growing. We have active partnerships with 9 rural government schools with engaged communities and have several projects planned at each school. We need help from the Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser to raise the funds to implement these projects over the next few years alongside our other sources of income.
Specific responsibilities:

Managing our existing portfolio consisting primarily of Trusts and Foundations giving between £5k-£50k

Write compelling, concise, well-presented, tailored grant applications in Google Docs.

Research and develop new trusts, foundations and corporates.

Report on progress of current prospects through the fundraising cycle

Work with the Founding Director with reporting to Trust and Foundation funders that you’ve had success.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all fundraising activity, including proposals, applications, and donor interactions

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the charity’s activities and programmes to be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders and potential funders
Knowledge, skills & experience required
