50% of the people that end up in prison either can’t read or struggle to. Whether it’s reading letters from loved ones, choosing what to eat from a menu, understanding job ads or filling in forms – reading is a vital life skill. At Shannon Trust, we enable prisoners to teach other prisoners how to read, so they’re better set up for a positive future. Come and join our team, and help us create a future where everyone can experience the positive impact of learning.
The past 18 months have been an opportunity for adaptation brought about by COVID19. We revised our delivery model and now, as we look forward to 2022, we want to develop much further. We have a renewed vision and mission, and we’ll be unveiling our new strategy in January. To support this, we are recruiting for a new regional manager for South East England and are seeking proactive, committed, and enthusiastic applicants to join our team and help us continue our journey.
Working closely with prisons, volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based programme, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read. You’ll be an excellent relationship builder, confident in the management and training of volunteers, and able to problem solve. We want to hear from applicants who can lead, be a team player and who are as committed to cause as we are.
This is a home-based role and requires travel around the South East England region, approximately 2 days per week.
Job share applications are welcome.
Job closing on Wednesday 13th October at 5pm. Interviews will take place on Friday 22nd October between 9am – 5pm.
Please submit a CV and a covering letter in which you outline your suitability for this post and how you meet the requirements of the role, by making reference to the person specification in the job description. Please also complete and submit the confidential Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form.
