Job description

Closing date: 3rd October 2019 at 11.30 pm

We’re looking for a self-motivated individual with experience of working in a busy office to join us as an Administrator and play a key role in supporting the team and ensuring the smooth running of the office via a mix of client facing and back office work.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

In response to growing need, Shelter Merseyside have successfully established an Integrated Service which provides advice, support & guidance to individuals and families to prevent homelessness. The Advice Support & Guidance Team will work across Merseyside providing advice and offering low level support from our Liverpool City centre base, community venues and clients’ homes to enable them to access, keep and improve their accommodation until everyone has a place to call home.

About the role
We’ll rely on you to provide a variety of administration support such as file maintenance, photocopying, typing and scanning, answering the telephone, dealing with queries, handling the mail etc. You’ll also have responsibility for designing and developing office systems and processes, booking staff travel and accommodation, organising user involvement events and lots more besides. Helping front line staff with case administration, assisting the Legal Administrator with ad hoc projects and seeing that our office equipment is properly maintained – all are aspects of this interesting, varied and vital role.

About you

You’ll need proven administrative experience within a customer-facing environment that has included dealing with vulnerable people. We’ll also expect you to have good typing skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, email and the internet. Resilient and with excellent people and team working skills, you will have a proactive and collaborative approach and the ability to apply creative thinking and introduce new ideas and processes.

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
