Do you have proficiency using business development tools, techniques and processes, a knowledge of the markets/sectors in which Shelter operates and experience of building relationships with new and existing external partners and commissioners? Then join Shelter as a Development Manager and you could soon be playing a key role in helping us to grow, develop, improve and, where relevant, redesign services in order to meet our local visions and overall strategy.
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
About the Role
Our Development team is focussed on maintaining and growing our services. In practice, this means securing income through bidding for statutory funded contracts, developing new services/initiatives that better meet the needs of our clients and working with, and developing, current services while scaling and replicating good practice. As a Development Manager, you’ll get involved in a variety of activities from day one. Supporting the drafting and refinement of development plans for a number of allocated business areas will be one of your challenges. Building and continuously improve your knowledge of our services and the wider market in relation to those areas will be another. We’ll also rely on you to engage with, and influence, commissioners/funders in relation to specific opportunities in your areas of responsibility. Developing partnerships to generate new leads, jointly pursuing specific opportunities and managing projects from conception through to handover – are all aspects of this interesting and varied role.
You’ll need a proven track record of managing key projects to deliver growth and generate income, ideally in a related sector. We’ll also be looking for a flair for writing clearly, concisely and accurately and drawing on a range of evidence to produce compelling content for tenders and proposals. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively, you’re great at building a network of good relationships. What’s more, you respond positively to change and are willing to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas when appropriate. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel is also required.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
