Do you have proven experience of project or business planning, ideally gained within a Business Development or relevant context? Then join Shelter as a Development Officer and you could soon be playing a key role in helping us to generate additional income and develop new products and services.
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
About the Role
You’ll be joining a Business Development team that’s focussed on maintaining and growing our services. In practice, this means securing income through bidding for statutory funded contracts, developing new products and services that better meet the needs of our clients and working with, and developing, current services. As a Development Officer, we’ll rely on you to help deliver our Hub income generation and development goals. One day you might be supporting income generation projects, including the completion of tenders, the next, proactively pursuing development opportunities. Producing content for bids, Selection Questionnaires, business cases and cost estimations will be important too. And, when it comes to helping to project manage contract mobilisation/implementation, carrying out research or contributing to wider team projects, again, we’ll count on you.
You’ll need a basic knowledge of public sector commissioning or grant making and experience of, or a keen interest in, playing your part in a business development team. The ability to produce high quality written content for proposals, tenders and written submissions and maintain accurate and current records is essential too. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively, you’re great at building a network of good relationships. What’s more, you respond positively to change and are willing to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas when appropriate. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel is also required.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
