Job description

Closing date: 17 July 2019 at 11.30pm

Do you have experience of using databases and a variety of office IT packages, possibly (though not essentially) in a fundraising environment, plus good admin skills and a high level of numeracy? Then join Shelter as a Direct Dialogue Logistics Assistant and you could soon be playing a vital support role within our in-house Face-to-Face and Door-to-Door Fundraising team.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

Shelter’s in-house F2F and D2D fundraising team was established in 2004 and currently operates across London and the South East, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Scotland. There are also in-house D2D teams in London, Leeds and Liverpool. Our focus is on gaining quality new supporters, and F2F & D2D fundraising currently delivers around 85% of Shelter’s new regular donors. What’s more, within the wider fundraising team, we’re busy creating a pioneering 3 year strategy that includes a major transformation of Division, so now is a particularly exciting time to join us.

About the role
Day-to-day, you’ll support our Logistics Manager and Face-to-Face Managers nationwide in order to make sure all F2F and D2D teams have access to the locations, equipment and administrative support they need. We’ll also rely on you to carry out research, arrange new fundraising opportunities and liaise with local authorities to secure access to council managed sites when necessary. Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of fundraising materials and ordering and despatching fresh stock will be important too. And, when it comes to organising venues for conferences and accommodation and travel for visiting managers and team leaders and representing us at meetings in place of the Logistics Manager when required, again, we’ll count on you.

About you
Collaborative, commercially aware and results-driven, you have great listening and relationship building skills too. You’ll also bring lots of creativity and innovation and a willingness to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas, methods and processes when appropriate. Experience of working with external agencies would be useful, as would a proven ability to use F2F site management and diary systems, however, that’s not as essential as your ability to quickly understand the needs of internal and external customers and other stakeholders and deliver a prompt, accurate and personalised service.

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, childcare vouchers, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
