Home working initially, then flexible working between home and office in London EC1
Closing date: 25 November 2021 at 11.30 pm
Do you have experience working in a fundraising team, ready to take your next step working with major donors? Or are you a strong communicator with excellent relationship building skills, looking to work with one of the UK’s leading housing and homelessness charities?
We are looking for motivated individuals to fill two Philanthropy Executive roles. One role will exclusively cover our Philanthropy work in England, while the other works across both England and Scotland.
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
This is a great opportunity for a skilled fundraiser looking to take the next step in their career, or a confident relationship-builder looking to use their skills to further Shelter’s mission. Above all, we are looking for an excellent communicator with great organisational skills, who has a proactive, action orientated mindset.
You will have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be confident corresponding with donors in person, over the phone or via email and have creative ideas for communicating the impact of their giving.
- The confidence and ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally, and the ability to reflect on your work to improve your own and team performance.
- Experience of successfully juggling a variety of projects, using your initiative to solve problems and achieve results.
- Some major donor fundraising experience, or transferable experience of successfully building relationships with individuals either in a private sector capacity or in another fundraising capacity.
About the team and the role
These are key roles in making Shelter’s strategic priorities a reality. You will be raising money for our core work – supporting people in communities threatened with losing their homes, as well as our campaigning to transform housing policy to get to the root of the problem.
The roles have a dual focus, managing a portfolio of donors giving at £5k+, and the design, delivery and management of a first-class stewardship and cultivation programme. To achieve this, you will be focused on maximising the impact of current relationships through seeking opportunities and developing innovative ways to engage donors and grow relationships in value or into multi-year commitments; and will take the lead on the development and delivery of our quarterly donor mailing programme.
As well as providing a service of excellent donor cultivation and stewardship, you will write compelling proposals and reports for donors in your portfolio and provide some of this support across the wider team.
You will be supported by a passionate and creative team who are committed to growing our Philanthropy income to over £3 million a year and are committed to supporting you to develop your skills and further your career.
The Philanthropy Executive supporting both England and Scotland, will also have the opportunity to think strategically and support the Senior Manager (Scotland) on product and event development for our Scottish audience. This role will require some travel to meet donors based in Scotland and elsewhere in England as required.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
