Do you have proven fundraising experience and are looking for the next step in your career? Or are you experienced in working with high-net-worth clients in a private sector role, looking to change direction and work with one of the UK’s leading charities?

We are looking for the right candidate to fill our Philanthropy Manager role, to play a crucial role in the success of our thriving Fundraising division.

About Shelter

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About you

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established Philanthropy professional to take the next step in their career. However, we are also keen to offer a development opportunity to an individual with demonstrable related experience and the required skills. Above all, we are looking for a candidate that is proactive, enterprising and personable in approaching individuals and understanding their philanthropic aims, and able to engage, manage and influence internal stakeholders.

You will have:

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a confident approach to donor management
  • Confidence using your initiative and collaboration skills, with the ability to proactively identify new opportunities
  • Exceptional supporter relationship stewardship
  • Experience in soliciting large donations (five-figure+) from high-net-worth individuals, or of working with high-net-worth clients in a private sector role.

About the role and the team

This is a key role in making Shelter’s strategic priorities a reality. You will be raising money for our core work – supporting people in communities threatened with losing their homes, as well as our campaigning to transform housing policy to get to the root of the problem.

This role is responsible for supporting the team to maintain relationships with a range of high-net-worth supporters and developing key connections with new major givers. The role plays a vital part in in ensuring donors are supported, successfully building and managing a range of valuable relationships.

You will be supported by an experienced, energetic Fundraising team and Senior Managers in front line services, Campaigns and Finance. The Philanthropy team develop relationships with high level individual donors and are responsible for securing major donations with a focus on five, six and seven figure gifts.  We have ambitious plans to significantly grow income to over £3 million a year and we are looking for a dedicated Philanthropy Manager to play a pivotal role in our success.

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
