How to apply
Do you have substantial campaigning experience, solid digital knowledge, a strategic approach to your work and a proven ability to manage people and projects? Then join Shelter as a Senior Digital Campaigner and you could soon be playing your part in bringing about positive change that will genuinely transform millions of people’s lives.
Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home for everyone. We strive for change — with individuals, in communities and across society. A home is a fundamental human need and a basic moral right, yet in Britain today, that right is being denied to millions of people whose lives are blighted by homelessness, bad conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. Six million households are denied the right to a safe home, or are threatened with losing it. 4,750 people sleep on our streets on any given night. 90,000 households are stuck in unsuitable temporary accommodation. In short, it’s a national emergency. But, we have a plan - a strategy for the future. Could you help us implement it?
Our ambitious ten-year strategy will see us stand up for the rights of renters, demand social homes for everyone who wants them, prevent people from becoming homeless and support people who are homeless back into a home. The expanding campaigns team has a key role at the heart of this, helping build both the plan and the national movement needed to make it a reality.
About the role
An amazing opportunity to campaign for these aims, you’ll be responsible for supporting our campaigner recruitment and online engagement objectives and how we manage our supporter data. As well as ensuring we produce high quality content and managing supporter journeys, you’ll be developing and building campaign actions. What’s more, we’ll rely on you to manage project teams to deliver on a range of objectives, act as a key link between the Campaigns and Online team and line manage an Assistant Campaigner. You will be working across campaigns to ensure more social housing is built, ensure the rights of people renting privately are met, and campaigning to stop the cuts to housing benefit that are driving homelessness. You will also be supporting a new team of Community Organisers and working across teams to build campaigns that are more than the sum of their parts.
A great strategic thinker, you have a taste for innovation and bags of creativity. You also enjoy seizing opportunities as they arise to be part of timely, strategic and inspiring campaigns. A background in campaigning, digital, or communications is key, as is openness to innovation in the use of campaigning tools to bring about change. Someone who’s able to ‘hit the ground running’, you have what it takes to build the relationships required to bring about change. You also know how to manage teams to ensure everyone’s heard and team members feel ownership of the change they’re a part of. Above all, you share our passion for making a difference to one of the biggest emerging social issues of our day – Britain’s housing crisis.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
