Are you creative, flexible, diplomatic and assertive, with proven experience gained in a fundraising and/or direct marketing environment that’s given you a firm grasp of direct response across multiple channels and excellent project, product and campaign management skills? Then join Shelter as a Senior Direct Marketing Executive – Retention and you could soon be playing a pivotal at the heart of our Individual Giving team.
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Part of a thriving Income Generation department, our Individual Giving team consists of three programmes - Supporter Acquisition, Direct Dialogue and Supporter Retention and Development. Together, we deliver a diverse programme of work with ambitious income targets that support our organisational strategy, across cash, regular giving and lottery products. We’ve grown quite a bit over the past few years and benefitted from both investment and opportunity for innovation. That’s resulted in us generating over £20m of unrestricted income every year. This is your chance to be part of our success.
About the role
As a senior member of the team, you’ll help drive our Individual Giving (IG) and Retention strategies forward, work with teams in IG to increase lifetime value of cash, regular giving and lottery supporters and collaborate with peers and Heads of team. We’ll also rely on you to plan and manage key projects and exceptional fundraising campaigns with significant income and expenditure targets, focused on giving supporters more control of how they give, when we contact them and the content that will mean most to them. Making sure each campaign builds strong supporter relationships and long-term commitment by developing inspiring multi-channel integrated campaigns to create accurate, consistent and engaging experiences at every supporter touchpoint will be key. And, along the way, you’ll have ample opportunity to deliver audience-led new product and propositions that will engage and retain supporters in truly innovative ways.
Excited about the chance to deliver outstanding supporter experiences and maximising income opportunities which will help more people and families secure a safe home, you excel in the analysis and intelligent use of complex data and developing new propositions and test strategies. You also have great influencing and negotiation skills, high levels of emotional intelligence and a flair for building positive working relationships quickly. What’s more, you’re adept at developing strategic testing plans and optimising campaigns and aren’t afraid to share your failures and successes. Utilising insight, including the motivations, interests and behaviours of supporters or customers to guide decisions, comes naturally to you too, plus you’re comfortable project managing multiple campaigns simultaneously and happy to regularly horizon scan and keep ahead of emerging trends.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
