Job description

SIFA Fireside is a leading charity in Birmingham that works with people who are homeless, vulnerably housed and disadvantaged. We are a values-based organisation whose mission is to support clients in the avoidance of, and the recovery from the effects of homelessness crisis.  Our range of services exist not to ‘throw money at the issues’ but to stand by people while they rebuild their lives with safety and dignity.

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to join Sifa Fireside as part of the team that offers crisis and prevention services. These include:

  • The daily Drop-In which meets primary needs such as food, showers and clothing and is a gateway to further services
  • The Homeless Transition Service which helps people with support needs move from homelessness into accommodation
  • The Adult Support Hub, which focuses on supporting vulnerable adults to maintain their accommodation and access support services. 

You will have direct experience of supporting vulnerable people and an excellent understanding of the barriers that people with multiple and complex support needs face. Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking initial assessments of clients accessing SIFA Fireside.
  • Provide advice and support to clients, signposting and referring them to internal and external services as appropriate.
  • Maintain an active caseload of clients as part of the Drop-In service.
  • Working closely with our Prevention service that helps people sustain existing accommodation; with our Recovery team that helps people move on from being homeless or vulnerably housed and our Homeless Transition team that supports people moving into exempt supported housing
  • Assist with the provision of practical support such as telephone calls and booking appointments.
  • Build effective, positive relationships with clients maintaining professional boundaries and ground rules.
  • Provide day to day supervision of the day centre, monitoring interactions and ensuring daily health and safety checks are carried out.
  • Work alongside our volunteers to provide a safe and effective service.
  • Support the planning and development of activities and opportunities to engage clients in SIFA Fireside services.
  • Ensure safeguarding issues are accurately identified and reported promptly in line with the safeguarding policy.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies and organisations to ensure highest quality service is delivered to clients, including partners who are co-located or provide outreach at SIFA Fireside.
  • Adopt a flexible approach to working within the team.
