Title: Media and PR Officer
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Contract: 6 month fixed term contract (with a view to extend this)
It is an exciting time of growth in our work combatting avoidable blindness and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and 2020 is set to be a big year for NTDs with the expected launch of a new NTD Roadmap by the World Health Organization (WHO), the inauguration of a new World NTD Day and the expansion of Sightsavers work on NTDs.
Sighsavers is therefore excited to offer the opportunity for a committed and experienced communications professional to join our Media team.
As the Media and PR Officer you will raise the profile of Sightsavers through high quality proactive and reactive media and PR. You will lead media work that supports our work on the control and elimination of NTDs, whilst also supporting media outreach for the full range of Sighsavers work.
Other duties of the Media and PR Officer will include the day to day running of the press office, news analysis, updating the media section of Sightsavers website and providing journalists with information, such as the production of broadcast and print materials in response to requests from media outlets. You will also develop and implement proactive PR and editorial opportunities to raise our profile, research and develop story ideas and communication plans to help promote Sightsavers’ key messages and establish good contact with national, international and specialist journalists and bloggers.
As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate experience of working in a policy focused media role, have excellent knowledge of national and international media and social media, have a good understanding of international development (ideally with knowledge of NTDs) and possess a background in building good relationships with key journalists in development, health and general media.
