Sixty-One is a Bristol-based charity that aims to support offenders and ex-offenders to lead meaningful crime-free lives. We do this by providing the relational and practical support offenders need. We also seek to inspire, engage and equip the church and individual Christians to join our work as a practical expression of Jesus’s love for people on the margins.
To do this we run our own projects such as the MentorMe mentoring project and the Christmas Gift Project. In addition, we work closely with partner churches, charities and organisations who can partner with us in supporting prisoners and ex-prisoners, the largest partnership being with four churches which run Hubs that provide midweek support for ex-prisoners.
Last year we provided 1,032 mentoring sessions (delivered by our volunteers) to 71 ex-prisoners of whom only three (4.2%) went back to prison, twelve times lower that the national average. The Hubs we support provided over 100 support sessions to 24 ex-prisoners.
Sixty-One is looking to appoint an experienced Chief Executive to grow its work supporting people with criminal convictions. It’s an exciting time to join the charity (formed in 2014) as it is well established and respected and now has good evidence of effectiveness.
You will need senior management experience, very good leadership skills and the vision and skill to release the resources within the church and local community to maintain and grow the charity’s work.
You will manage a small, but experienced and committed, team of five. This includes the manager of the MentorMe project (this project will not require day-to-day input from the CEO) and an Office Manager who also looks after the finances. Our office is in central Bristol and we work in a number of local prisons.
A passion for helping those on the margins is essential. A knowledge of criminal justice issues would be desirable. The trustees are open to this position being either 4 or 5 days a week.
Closing date: Friday 29th October 2021, 5.00pm
